Summary of CBP's comments on Vol Calls tonight: BK asked CBP to talk about first two games:

CBP indicated that USI was a very good division II School and gave us a challenge. Carson Newman was not as strong as USI. CBP and his coaches are pleased with the player’s performance so far. ETSU will be a step-up in competition. The starting line-up will remain the same as the CN game. Patterson has worked hard and earned playing time, but will not start.

CBP stated that his major concerns were foul trouble and the ability to play half court offense and defense. He indicated that half court defense is something that must be drilled and it takes years of discipline, teaching and focus to learn. He said that they are working on it, but that it will require more time and drills to be able to fully implement.

CBP told a caller that the post game comments/interviews would be similar to when Kevin O’Neal was here. He said that he would take questions from the audience and sign autographs.

When asked about his recruiting class, CBP said that he was excited about the future. He said that we had a top 15 classes and the #1 class (by some services) in the SEC. He said the four recruits were hungry, physical, mentally tough, good kids that knew how to win.

He said that there was a possibility of signing 1 or 2 more recruits in the Spring, but only if a need could be met. If not, he would save the scholarships until next year.

A caller shared that he was tickled with the amount of energy shown by the team and that he enjoyed seeing CBP daughter singing the National Anthem. CBP said that his daughter Jackie would sing again at the ETSU game. He said the greatest singing lesson Jackie ever had was when she was told to sing the NA to honor America. He said that is exactly how she does it. CBP felt that the greatest Pearl at the CN game was his daughter. BTW she is transferring to UT.

CBP was watching ETSU tape with Coach Shay. CBP said Tim Smith is a NBA caliber point guard, but small. He will be the quickest guard we face all year. Tim Smith will benefit from our style of play, but said that he and the staff had a good game plan set up for them. Mentioned Snead or Sneed was a good inside player. CBP said we must play well to beat teams. He mentioned that the next six teams we face are predicated to win their respective conferences. CBP said we could win the next 6 games if we play well, but we will lose if we don’t play well.

Finally he said thanks to the fans. He mentioned that the fans had been so supportive and so receptive at every place he had been. He mentioned that as we get challenged, hopefully we would improve.
