Come on people. Basketball season is about to begin and there is nobody that is using this forum. We need to get the talk on here going, and spread the word of this forum. 04-rock

One cool thing from CBS Sportsline magazine (by the way, I think I am addicted to preseason hoops magazines)

Alain Laroche F from UNF was selected as the newcomer of year in the ASUN. I really hope this is true because we have very little rebounding or interior defense returning from last year.

It seems like with the departure of Q from JU, Smith from ETSU appears to be the consensus for conference POY. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play this year.

Smith is a great player. Another super quick guard with good size is tim jennings from GWU. Looks like the ASUN is in for some great games this year.

It has been slow on here. I guess everyone is just waiting on basketball. Only three weeks to go!!

The men's composite schedule is now on atlanticsun.org. Exhibition games start Nov 2. Oddly, Lipscomb has an exhibition game Nov 28 after their third regular season game. I don't understand that.

Campbell has an intriguing season opener vs. the San Diego Torreros (picked 2nd or 3rd behind Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference). Apparently, USD really needed to schedule a game. They're flying to NC to play the Camels and then returning to California without playing anyone else - flying cross-country to play in Carter Gym!! An awesome Saturday afternoon home game vs. UNCW was dropped for this game, but San Diego will be very interesting. Next year, Campbell will play at San Diego and another western school. I believe Centenary (La) or Minnesota might be the farthest-west "away" games CU has ever played up to this point.

The two leading scorers in the Orange/Black Scrimmage yesterday were a couple of juco newcomers - Eric Smith (17) and J'Quincy Jones (10).

Who was your starting PG last year? I remember him being good. Is he back?

Yeah, ETSU plays an exhibition game a few games into the season. Weird.

bold prediction. lol. They had plenty of games last year they just couldn't close out. I don't think anyone is going to take CU lightly this year.

Ruell Pringle finished the season at point and landed on the All Freshmen team. He'll be back. Thanks for the votes of confidence for the Camels. The LEAST I'm hoping for is an 8th place finish. That'll put us in the tournament. I feel like we'll battle JU (Q-less), Mercer (Coleman-less), and maybe FAU (?) for those last seeds.

Having to play 20 conference games is a little strange. Since the NCAA only allows 27 scheduled games. That is why ETSU has Milligan and Mars Hill listed as exhibition games. I really hope the ASUN adds 2 teams next year after FAU leaves so we can have two six team divisions. That would give everybody 4 extra non-conference games. Anybody have any info on who might be added?

Orange Camel -- Don't forget about Stetson. I just don't see them doing much w/ that coach.

I'm guessing that if anyone joins for next year, it might be Florida Gulf Coast. The Radford talk seems to have fizzled, but they would probably serve a 2 yr notice before switching from the Big South. Longwood is out there looking for a conference! Geographically, BirminghamSouthern makes sense.

What two teams would you all like to see come in? Winthrop and Davidson or UNC Wilmington (latter two unlikely) would be great.

I know Divisions have their merits, but I still prefer a round-robin schedule.

I would like to see Winthrop, High Point, UNCG, CofC, Davidson, or Radford. I even read the College of Charleston chat room one time and some of their fans wanted back in the A-Sun. I would rather see a division 1 team added than a D2 or D3 team added. Don’t get me wrong I think North Florida and Kennesaw State are great schools and perfect fits for the A-SUN. I believe any of the SoCon teams that did not have football would be a great fit. I really feel if the A-SUN goes for some of the top Big South teams or non-football SoCon teams any would be a great fit.

Campbell will most likely play UCLA next year when they are in CA. Radford and Longwood would probably be good fits in the conference as the other football schools leave. I agree that we need to look to established D1 schools versus newly minted D1 programs. In the long run it will help the conference ranking. With the recent departure of the top teir progams the conference is out of the top 20.

As for player of the year honors Tim Smith is hands down the best player in the conference. I have seen him play since he was a sophomore in high school, what a talent. He is an absolute jet and there is no one and I mean no one in the conference that can keep up with him one on one. ETSU got a steal when they got him. He was originally going to a big east or acc school before going to ETSU. I fact he was a late pick up when he did finally sign.

Hopefully Campbell can pick things up this season, they are certainly talented enough. It will be a matter of whether they can play together. They looked awfully rough in the black and orange scrimmage last weekend. I just hope we can get to the tournament this year. Stay tuned!

I think he may be talking about Anthony Atkinson not Ruell. Anthony flunked off the team and out of school last year. He is at Barton College a D2 school in his home town of Wilson, NC. He will be greatly missed. Ruell is not the answer to our point guard whoas. He is a 2 guard and not a very good one at that. Sure he scored some points but if you noticed he jacked up shots in bunches toward the end of games last year in order to get his! He needs to learn how to play with teammates. I think the JC tranfer guards will have more of an impact than Ruell and hopefully he will learn from them.

I've had the feeling for the past few years that Belmont has been knocking on the door of a conference title. Anyone think this could be the year for the Bruins?

Is this the most popular A-Sun board? Are there any others? I assume UCF took its A-Sun board down?

I don't know of any other A-Sun boards, so this might be the most popular by default ;-)

This is the successor to the UCF Rivals board - they worked out a deal to move it over here.

Question answered. Thanks.

I'm sure it's good to have to A-SUN board away from UCF control.

My school (Troy) moved onto the SunBelt, but I still follow FAU.
