MACON, Ga.- A trio of Mercer golfers are making strong showings in summer tournaments. Junior Michael Gregory (Bolton, Ontario, Canada) is currently tied for 21st and rising sophomore Andrew An (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada) is tied for 24th in the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship at the Redtail Golf Course in Port Stanley, Ontario, coming into Thursday’s action. Rising senior Brandan Price (Vancouver, British Columbia) is competing at the British Columbia Men's Amateur Championship at Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria, British Columbia, where he currently is tied for 45th place after rounds of 73 and 78.

Gregory and An both shot identical first-round scores of 75. An's first round was highlighted with an eagle on the 18th hole. An shot a second round score of
even-par 72 while Gregory shot a one-under-par 71, but he was four-under-par
with two holes to play and finished with a double bogey on the 17th hole and a bogey on No. 18.

Gregory is playing is his first tournament since leading the Mercer men's golf team to their best finish is school history at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships where he tied for 11th place individually. Andrew An is continuing his stellar play this summer coming off a win at the National Invitational Tournament of Canada on June 20. He
fired rounds of 73 and 71 to take medalist honors by three strokes.

MACON, Ga.- Mercer men’s golfer Eric Reeves has been selected as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

To be eligible for the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championship, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their respective college or university.

Reeves, a Macon native, played for three years at Mercer and had a stroke average of 73.3 during his senior season. He improved his scoring average by three strokes from his junior to senior years. Reeves was a model of consistency last season as he finished in the top 30 of each tournament in which he competed and posted his best finish with a tie for eighth position at the Wofford Invitational.

“This is a good way to end his career here, being that he is the first Mercer men’s golfer to receive this award,

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men’s golf schedule was made official on Thursday, August 11 by Mercer men’s golf coach Jason Payne.

The schedule begins this fall on September 19 with a trip to Magnolia Grove Golf Club in Mobile, Alabama for the Jaguar Invitational, a two-day event hosted by South Alabama.

The following week the Bears will head to Simpsonville, Kentucky for the Cardinal Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Louisville. On October 17 Mercer travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Sonic/UTC Invitational where the Bears took third place last season out of 14 teams.

The fall portion of the schedule wraps up at the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate which runs October 31-November 1. This event is hosted by Southern Mississippi and will take place at Canebrake Country Club.

Coach Payne said, “ I look at the fall schedule as a tough challenge in which we will get a chance to play the top teams in the district.

MACON, Ga. –Mercer Men’s Golf team members Brandon Price, Michael Gregory and Andrew An will be competing in the Canadian Amateur Championship starting on Sunday, August 14.

Mercer holds the distinction as the only school to send three returning players to this competition. The tournament format will feature 36 holes on Sunday and Monday before the field will be cut to 64. After the cut, match play will begin Tuesday and conclude with the championship match on Friday, August 19.

Brandon Price enters this tournament with momentum after winning the Beach Grove Amateur in Vancouver, British Colombia last weekend. Price shot a 71 in the first round and followed that with a 69 in the final round to win by three strokes.

Who would have thought with all our beautiful golf courses and great weather in Georgia that our recruiting hotbed would be in Canada, eh? But this is still really impressive. Hope these boys represent themselves well and our university. Good Luck. And I hope that Price's scores hold up during the year. Any win is impressive. That is quite an accomplishment to win a tourney.

MACON, Ga. –Mercer men’s golfer Andrew An defeated Andrew Ross by a score of two up on Tuesday to advance to the round of 32 at the Canadian Amateur Championships.

An will face Ben Moser, a Kent State graduate, on Wednesday morning in an 18-hole match with the winner moving on to play in the round of 16 in the afternoon. The championship match will be held on Friday, August 19.

MACON, Ga. –Andrew An lost one down to Ben Moser in the round of 32 at the Canadian Amateur Championships on Wednesday morning.

After a back and forth front nine, An made the turn one down. Moser won the 12th hole, but An proceeded to birdie holes 13 and 14 to even the match at all square. A costly double bogey at the par four 15th, and another bogey on hole number 16 allowed Moser to take a two hole lead. An won the par 3 17th hole to pull within one, but Moser closed out the match on number 18 to win one up.

MACON, Ga. –Mercer University and Reynolds Plantation, in conjunction with the University of South Alabama, will host the Reynolds Plantation-Gulf Coast Classic at the Port Armor Country Club in Greensboro, Ga., next Monday and Tuesday, September 19 and 20.

This replaces the South Alabama Jaguar Intercollegiate which was cancelled by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

The field will include several institutions that were directly impacted by the storm. They are the University of New Orleans, the University of Southern Mississippi and Southeastern Louisiana. Other teams entered in the event are South Florida, Middle Tennessee State, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Florida Atlantic, South Alabama and Mercer.

GREENSBORO, Ga. –Mercer’s men’s golf team stands in fourth place after 18-holes at the Reynolds Plantation Gulf-Coast Classic with a score of 293.

Southern Mississippi leads the ten-team event with an 18-hole score of 287. Middle Tennessee State and Southeastern Louisiana are tied for second with 289 strokes apiece.

Mercer was led by junior Michael Gregory and freshman Austin Weathington, who both shot a 72 for the Bears. Sophomore Andrew An shot a 73, as Brandan Price and Silas Sutton both finished at 76 to round out Mercer’s squad.

Middle Tennessee State’s Spencer Provow shot a 69 en route to leading after the opening round.

The 18-hole, second round is being played this afternoon at Port Armor Country Club. The final round will take place Tuesday morning with the shotgun start set for 8 a.m.

GREENSBORO, Ga. –Mercer’s men’s golf team is currently in third place after shooting even par through two rounds at the Reynolds Plantation Gulf-Coast Classic.

Southeastern Louisiana leads the tournament after round two with a combined score of four under par. Southern Mississippi is one shot back and currently in second place heading into the final round.

Michael Gregory has led Mercer through the first two rounds shooting a 72 and 71, good for a tie in ninth place. Andrew An has been consistent as well finishing in a tie for 13th place after shooting a second round 72. Brandan Price and Silas Sutton fought back after tough first rounds and each shot a 70 in round two. Austin Weathington rounded out the Bears scoring shooting a second round 74.

The course played a little easier in the afternoon round as three players shot 67. The trio of golfers that shot 67 included University of New Orleans’ Adam Collins, Danny Dennis of Southern Miss and Aaron O’Callaghan of Southeastern Louisiana.

The final round of the Reynolds Plantation Gulf-Coast Classic is set for Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. The 18-hole finale will take place at Port Armor Country Club in Greensboro, Ga.

GREENSBORO, Ga. –Mercer’s men’s golf team placed fourth at the Reynolds Plantation Gulf Coast Classic at Port Armor Country Club. The Bears shot seven over par for the tournament.

Mercer opened their fall season on a high note as they were led by Michael Gregory who finished in a tie for seventh while shooting even par for the three-round tournament and shot a 73 in the final round. Brandan Price also shot a solid final round 72 for a 54-hole total of 218 and finished in a tie for 10th. Austin Weathington may have had the shot of the tournament with his hole-in-one on hole number 3 and finished with a 75 on the final round. Silas Sutton chipped in with a final round 75 for the Bears. Andrew An rounded out the squad with a third round score of 78.

Southern Mississippi won the tournament with a score of three under par. Southeastern Louisiana finished in second place compiling a score of four over par and they were followed up by third place Austin Peay, which shot five over par for the event.

Aaron O’Callaghan of Southeastern Louisiana took home the individual title shooting a final round 71 to put him at three under par for the tournament. Austin Peay’s Yoshio Yamamoto shot a 70 in the final round for the low score of the day.

Mercer’s next scheduled tournament is the Cardinal Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Louisville on September 26-27.
