From the JC Press....

New Bucs look good to Rhoda

Ben Rhoda is working hard to get himself back in basketball shape this summer, and for good reason.

After being around several of East Tennessee State’s new recruits on campus the last few weeks, the senior guard expects quite a scramble for playing time once another season rolls around. He certainly won’t be resting on his laurels.

“Nothing is going to be given to anybody this year,

Fan 88', I don't know about you, but I think Ben is being humble. One of these newcomers will have to be awfully good to take his starting position. He brings so many intangibles that I would be amazed if he was coming off the bench. I think the person who may lose their starting position is Travis Strong. From what I hear, Courtney Pigram is going to be incredible. I have head alot of favorable things about Tayloe Taylor as well. It should be interesting and hopefully some healthy competition will bring out the best in all.

I agree. Unless he gets hurt or just plays really bad, you can't take the starting spot away from Ben. To me, he is one of the most valuable members of the team. He may not be flashy, score a lot of points or get the most rebounds but he brings so much determination and heart to the floor he is worth his weight in gold.

Actually from what I hear, he is telling the truth. If that Swader kid is 100% healthy from his knee surgery, he could take the starting job. He is supposed to be the real deal.

I have alot of questions about Swader. I know that he was highly recruited out of H.S. and originally committed to MTSU, but how did he end up going to Neosho Community college? And...did he sustain his knee injury in the course of last season or was this recent?

I can't wait for this season. I'm especially excited about these new recruits. I hear good things about all of them. I "googled" Eryk Thomas and read alot of praise for his game. Seems like kind of a scrappy, tough, "just get it done " type of player. You can never have enough of those.

I only wish they would have signed a H.S. big man.

BTW, does anyone know if practices are open? Can anyone go the dome and watch them practice? Just curious.

As far as I know the practices are open. Or at least they were years ago when I was at ETSU. At that time they switched between the dome and Brooks depending what was going on at the dome. So unless things have changed, anyone should be able to go watch...what are they going to do, lock up Memorial Center??? :D
