Records last year: GWU 5-6; Union 4-7

Series: This is the first football meeting between the two programs

The receiving trio of Kory Alston, Aaron Richardson and Vonzell Pittman combined for 113 catches, 1,676 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Senior defensive end Brandon Schweitzer is a preseason All-America pick.

Union — Senior defensive back Ernest Johnson was a first team All-American by Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette. The 5-11, 181-pounder led the team with 63 tackles and five interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. He’s joined

in an active secondary by Deontray

Babb, a second team all-region pick.

Senior placekicker Jason Buster was an All-Region pick last season. Wideout Courtney Elesby is an all-star candidate as well.

Quotable: Union Coach Tommy Reid on his 2005 schedule:

“This is a great opportunity for our players to really get a taste of big-time college football taking on two strong NCAA programs in Southern Illinois and Gardner-Webb. The experience we gain from these games will hopefully go a long way in preparing us for a Mid-South Conference championship.

Interesting stat
Possession Time............... UC 33:32 G-W 26:00

highlights
Red-Zone Scores-Chances....... UC 1-2 G-W 7-8
Sacks By: Number-Yards........ UC0-0 G-W4-19

Not sure how much can be learned from this game. G-W almost outweighed this this team by a metric ton. Personally I would like to see us run more but when you put up those kind of points and the punter sees no playing time I am not sure I have a right to complain. The great part is that we had a lot of guys get playing time and run the O.
