MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A new era in Middle Tennessee football will begin on August 3 when the Blue Raiders report to preseason camp. The first official practice is set for Friday, August 4.
First year Head Coach Rick Stockstill will open all practices to the public with one exception. Fans are welcome to attend practices until August 12; however, camp will be closed for a period running from August 13 through August 30 as the Blue Raiders prepare for the season opener. With new offensive and defensive systems, the Blue Raiders want to maintain an element of surprise, if possible, for the opening game.
"Our fans are very important to the success of our program and we want them involved as much as possible," said Stockstill. "I know it makes our players feel good when they are working hard and preparing for the season and they can look out there and see a large group of fans supporting them.
"While it is important to have that type of involvement we do ask that our fans respect the one short period that we are closing our practice. This is a period of time when we want our players to be extremely focused with no distractions as we continue to implement our offensive and defensive game plans."
The Blue Raiders open the 2006 season at home on August 31 against conference foe Florida International. Kickoff is slated for 6 PM.
