Anyone got any updates? I know FIU starts 1AA this season. Anyone know how ticket sales are going, what's in the works?
And if USA is planning for sure to drop club football and start a 1AA program.
Haven't heard much lately, wondered if info was out there...

Here's the USA football plan: We are starting our season ticket sale campaign in a few weeks, with a goal of hitting 6,000 before it's over in December. If we don't hit it, football will be shelved, probably permanently. If we do, the students will be asked to agree to an $11 athletic fee increase. That budget will be used to fund a new women's sport and start a 1AA (non-scholarship) program. The team will recruit its first class next year and begin play in 2004. The plan to advancing to 1AA scholarship ball and beyond will be determined by how much support the team gets.

So USA ticket sales start this year for the 2004 season? Did I get that right? Where would the games be played?

That's right. People who buy tickets this year are being asked to pledge to buy for four years (2004-2008). We will play our games at Ladd Memorial Stadium, home of the Senior Bowl.

Ok, thanks. I sure hope it works out. Plus I'm hoping WKU is playing SBC football by that time too.

Yikes. The new I-A regulations are biting hard at the mid-majors and the bottom feeders of the majors as well.
Duke will have a tough time staying I-A in football under attendance policy.

A poll last year showed that 75% of the students said they would pay an additional fee of up to $25 for football. The USA athletic fees are pretty low already (around $40 per quarter), so things look pretty good. I anticipate that we will surpass the 6,000 ticket mark, so a compromise may be available on the increase amount, if it comes to that.

I think they will come up with some safety nets for teams like Duke (either a grandfather clause or something like if 8 teams in the conference make the regulations you are alright)
