Rk Team 2001-02 record
1. Arizona 24-10
The Wildcats won't surprise anyone — including their coach — this time around.
2. Kansas 33-4
Even minus Drew Gooden, the Jayhawks will be in hunt for Williams' first national title.
3. Pittsburgh 29-6
If you think last season was a fluke, you'd better revamp your thinking.
4. Alabama 27-8
No reason for a second-round wash out for Tide next March.
5. Oklahoma 31-5
The Sooners should be even better than OU team that went to Atlanta.
6. Texas 22-12
Three Big 12 teams in Final Four? It could happen.
7. Xavier 26-6
The Musketeers have two A-A candidates in West, Sato.
8. Western Kentucky 28-4
The return of Marcus puts WKU comfortably into Top 10.
9. Duke 31-4
Yes, the freshmen are that good; so are the returnees.
10. Missouri 24-12
But Tigers can only be this good if JC transfer PG Clemons comes through.
11. Georgia 22-10
The Bulldogs should be much deeper and much better, too.
12. Maryland 32-4
Even minus Dixon/Baxter/Wilcox/Mouton, there are still some Turtles worth fearing.
13. Ohio State 24-8
This could be O'Brien's best ever team in Columbus.
14. Mississippi State 27-8
No whining necessary about lack of pre-season respect for Bulldogs.
15. Michigan State 19-12
Had a certain underclassmen not opted for draft, Spartans would be Top 10.
16. Kentucky 22-10
Bogans returns for his 10th season in Lexington — or so it seems.
17. Marquette 26-7
Don't get hung in personnel losses with Wade back for another season.
18. Oregon 26-9
Despite losses of Jones/Christoffersen, there isn't much slippage in Eugene.
19. Wisconsin 19-13
Badgers among six or seven clubs that could win Big Ten.
20. Gonzaga 29-4
Few will have his deepest team; it might be his best, too.
21. Syracuse 23-13
The Orangemen have frosh/soph talent in abundance.
22. Illinois 26-9
Self may be starting two frosh in backcourt by conference.
23. Penn 25-7
This has makings of best Ivy team since Princeton jolted UCLA in '96.
24. Florida 22-9
Nelson is running out of time to live up to hefty prep hype.
25. Wyoming 22-9
This should get the folks in Laramie pumped up a little bit,
Others to watch: Boston College 20-12; Butler 26-6; Cal 22-9; Cincinnati 31-4; Connecticut 27-7; Creighton 23-9; Georgia Tech 15-16; Georgetown 19-11; Indiana 25-12; Louisville 19-13; Miami-Fla. 24-8; Minnesota 18-14; North Carolina State 22-10; Southern Illinois 28-8;Tennessee Tech 27-7; Texas Tech 23-8;Tulsa 27-7; UCLA 21-12; Villanova 19-13; Wake Forest 21-13.

I've seen them ranked 8th in one and 25th in another. Probably somewhere in between is about right.

These pre-season polls are generally worthless, except for the extra attention and exposure a school gets. Should be good for the conference.
