I'll briefly comment on Steve's comments related to both programs.

In terms of recruiting you could make the same point what is EMU doing different than other schools like WMU and CMU? WMU had a very good recruiting class in hoops coming in this fall and the new CMU coach had a very good recruiting class coming in for next year and I believe CMU is intent on building a new hoops arena. The same attendance problems that plague football are also true with hoops. Are we gaining on other MAC hoops programs or just staying in place talent wise? True, I see improvement and more competition and losing Medlock hurts but like football close matters in horseshoes and hand generades.

In football, its not as easy to turn a program around. The attrition factor had just killed the program in terms of experience. We just replace what we lost with more inexperienced although in some cases more talented players. We face a killer non-conference schedule just to bring dollars into the program to survive. We certainly aren't the only school facing those problems. What we did do on Weds is bring a decent competitive class without the facilities, bowl games, support and interest that other MAC teams enjoy.

The difference between the two programs in my opinion is that Rams is a better basketball coach with better assistants than Genyk is a football coach and his assistants. I guess we could replace Genyk but then we end up rebuilding all over and more attrition. I don't know but unless football shows some improvement in W and L and especially W in the MAC the program does face extinction.

I agree with HC
1). FB programs are very, very difficult to turn around unless the coach is a wonder worker (and if so, he'll do the Urban Meyer bit and move on quickly). EMU has had one winning year in the 90s and ZERO this century.

Many students weren't even born (late 80s) when the Hurons went bowling.

2). Agree that hoops is easier to turn around and Ramsey faces a tough, but doable task (and is doing it).

At least a few can remember the '96 and '98 NCAA trips.

And one last thing:

CMU and WMU students and alums do a better job in my opinion of supporting their athletic programs come rain or shine.

EMU students and alums treat theirs like a forgotten pet, nice to have around as long as you have to only pay attention to them when you have to and feed them once a day.

Cashen's numbers at BG:

12 minutes
6 points
6 rebounds
2 assists

He also tipped the offensive rebound to Bowdrey at the end of the game. That rebound retained possession for EMU, Bowdrey was fouled and sank one for the winning margin of victory.

Williams had himself a pretty subpar game by his standards scoring just 10 against a tough Saginaw team on Tuesday Night

AGREE ON WILLIAMS
SAGINAW HAD LEWIS GUARD HIM AND WILLIAMS DIDN'T DO MUCH. HE HAS HAD A FEW SUB PAR GAMES THIS SEASON WITH SOMETHING LIKE 10 ,12,13,14 POINTS BUT HAS HAD SOME BIG GAMES AS WELL.

I SEEN HIM PLAY AGAINST FLINT POWERS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON AND HE HAD ONLY 14, MISSED A LOT OF SHOTS, DIDN'T HIT ONE THREE. ALL OF HIS PINTS WERE INSIDE OR ON FREE THROWS.

A PLAYER I LIKE IS BOWDREY'S FORMER TEAMMATE AT TAYLOR TRUMAN NAMED PAUL REYES. HE CAN REALLY PLAY AND IS HAVING A GOOD YEAR AVERAGING ABOUT 22PPG AND 12 BOARDS - HE JUMPS OUT OF THE GYM. DON'T KNOW IF RAMSEY LIKES HIM HOWEVER - HE DOES HAVE THE LONG HAIR - PONY TAIL STYLE.

SPRING RECRUITING WITH ONE SCHOLARSHIP LEFT ON PAPER SHOULD BE INTERESTING.

Isn't Reyes about 6'4, or some people would refer as a "tweener". What position does he play in high school?

I'm curious as what people thing is our greatest need for next year that we don't already have in Skipper and LJ or on the team already and with Cooper coming off a redshirt year. Lets see seniors next year are Axon, the Serbian, Freer, Matthews although I may not have their eligibility correct.

Thanks for the reminder on Bunkley.

I'm sure there may more information available but right now Rivals is showing Williams and Reyes with no formal offers by any school.

Rivals shows EMU with no outstanding offers made to anyone else at this time.

SIGNING DATE
Spring signing date is the first or second Weds in April

Reyes is 6-5 about 180 lbs (thin). He plays on the wing at Taylr Truman, can shoot the three and gets a lot of alley oop dunks. Good athlete with quickness and great jumping ability.

Not sure who is recruiting Reyes - had heard that Milwaukee Wisconson was one of the teams. As for Williams, most all the MAC schools are after him. Kent State was real heavy on him earlier.
