Upgrade of Dix Stadium
I am surprised that no one has commented on the plans for removing both the north and south end-zone stands at Dix and building an archway for the south end zone that would include a large color-replay scoreboard facing in to the stadium and another large electronic message board facing out to Summit Street. The style of the archway would be similar to the scoreboard setup at Miami. ( http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/13210...6389DiCeSp )

According to The Record-Courier, smaller end-zone stands are tentatively planned for the north end zone and Kennedy also has hopes for installing new, more attractive fencing and access gates surrounding the stadium, a permanent home for the new "Tailgate Alley" and landscaping with flowers, trees and possibly even hedges, similar to the University of Georgia.

FlashFan shared this information with others on the main board but I don

The Flash also posted the same question, BGF. Ohio Varsity tried to get a discussion going on KSR on the same topic. Very quiet on all fronts. Maybe there will be more excitement when we see actual drawings. Seems like a lot of work to get done by next August, so I'd imagine they'd start as soon as the weather permits.

Speaking of football, did anyone else watch the interview of Doug Martin's press conference on K Zone? What did you think?

NGF, are you going to the MCB?

Dix
I think it's great that upgrades will be made. Dix is IMO, the worst D-1 faiclity that I've seen. I am excited to see the drawings and am cautiously optimistic. Until we see them, there's not much to comment on.

I am not impressed with the East stands that were buily 2 years ago. Wadsworth high school has better (and larger) stands than this. We'll see...

Building the softball field immediately in front of Dix Stadium does not help the aesthetics either. GF68 has strongly voiced his displeasure about this and I totallyagree with him.

Maybe the softball field was built where it was so it would hide part of Dix? Just kidding...You're right, that is a strange place to build a minor sports facility (directly in front of the "front porch" of your schools athletic department)...

Amazing what winning a few games does. I am for improving the stadium, but some small things would be nice. Improve the concessions and restrooms. Hopefully that will be included. The east side stands have served their purpose. They can't fill up 28,000 so why add 5,000 more? Cutting down on the end-zone seating would make it a more intimate setting.

As for the other parts of the notebook, which I hadn't read until now ... I am still unclear about Kennedy's grand plan for the lower level. If they are all chairbacks, what happens to the students? Kennedy said a few years back that he wants them across from the benches.

Interesting Martin is going for more big linemen. If they bring those guys in plus the big running back, they have to stick with the power running. They can't go back to spread midway through the season.

Collaros is a huge commit. Those on the main board can argue about their stars and ratings. This kid is good. He is very similar to Edelman and could challenge him as early next August.

I thought the restrooms were much improved last time I was there compared to the time before that. The concession stands could certainly use a boost.

The restrooms received a much needed overhaul last year.

Dix
I've been to the Rubber Bowl many times (as well as Yeager, Peden, BUGS, Glass Bowl, Western, Eastern, Central). The Rubber Bowl is run down for sure but at least it looks like a staduim (concrete stands and bowl configuration). At Dix (the West stands aside) we simplyhave a collection of 3 bleachers. Additonally, many opposing team fan Ive talked to that have visted Dix have let me know that they were surprised at the blandness and poor condition of Dix.

I love KSU and even our historicaly embarassing F-Ball program but I'm being objective here...

K-Stud, good isn't the word for Collaros.

The thing about him...it's not just what he does on the field. The kid lost one game as a starting quarterback since SEVENTH grade.

He's a winner. Winning is all he knows.
