Does anyone have a list of EMU's recruits? I believe there are 15-17 verbals right now (EMU record for mid-December?) with at least 4 or 5 linemen and 2 QB's coming in to add depth to those position groups that are depleted. I don't know if there are any DT's in the bunch, a position in real need of depth.

Okay Wooden,
QB-McMahon, Williams
RB-Priest, Welch
TE-Yousiff
WR-Hunter, Sawyer
OL-someone posted Shrieves from Dayton news to me, Gwinner,
Buche, Gotham
DL-Palsrock, Ohrman
LB-Bittner
DB-Long, English, Wilson, Stone
Considering the crazy world of college football coaching it may have been a smart move to retain Genyk and his assistants. I know we have visits scheduled for a JUCO QB, a very fast Florida WR/DB. I would agree the weakness of this class is DL and LB. Max for this class is 24 because Allen I believe is a prop 48 from last year and will count against this year's class.
Its not a superstar class, but solid. When one goes 1-10 solid is very good.
Priest is the pick of this class-so far.

Rivals
Rivals isn't always up to date. For example they ran a story on Priest announcing his commitment and then don't show him committed.
The guys that aren't on the Rivals system are very good. Long was a Detroit newspaper First Team All State Class A pick. Buche was AP All State and the Lansing State Journal Offensive Player of the Year. Welch from the Canton area in Ohio is lost in the mix of great players from that area.

Need More...
I'd like to see about 3 more LB's, 2 DT's, and a JUCO QB added to this list.

Wooden Nickel's Wish List
Can't speak to the DL, although we're trying. According to Rivals and Scout there are two JUCO QBs, one is set for an official visit next weekend. We've made lots of offers to LBs-mostly in Ohio one in Indiana and several in Illinois including one who might be a prop candidate but a great athlete. Not sure whether we will offer a kicker. We actually did offer a kicker from Wellock's old school in Ohio but he chose S. Miss.
The problem is we had some scholies left over from last year's class for various reasons. Those could be filled with prep schools and JUCOs and as it stands now it looks like we will only fill at most 2 slots unless some of the freshmen have graduated from high school and enrolled at EMU this semester.
On the other hand if this is the case, some of the walk ons last year will be getting scholie offers.

Some Corrections
McCroskey is planning to move his committment to Cincy according to Rivals. article. I always mess up and refer to Knight as Stone-sorry and thanks for the correction. I believe EMU may have pulled his offer to Vermiglio its not the first time Jake has chanted his mind and I think EMU got sick of it. I can't remember where the reference to Kevin Long from Walled Lake game from it may be from the Detroits newspapers. Bittner's first name is Chris and he is the Rivals database not ranked.
Wilson's name is Nate Wilson from Mentor, Ohio.
Dwayne Priest is from Fort Union Prep Va. There is an article on Rivals where he announced his committment at a press conference. Check it out, his credentials are very good.
Yes Genyk is doing a good job this year.

Hey Cowboy and the rest...good to see ya, its gonna be nice not sparring with the multiple personalities on that other forum. Kudo`s to yourself and the othwer for doing thier homework on recruits, I dont follow the out of state recruits that well. I believe it has been a good class for Genyk, lets all hope its as good as 05`s!..Vermiglio`s offer was pulled by EMU...playin too many games, and he wanted to visit Ohio, I dont blame them. I`m hopin they land a JUCO QB so they can red-shirt McMahon. Quite a few of these recruits should see playing time next year, Gotham will most likely play D-Line, he`s a big kid and can add depth there, Yousiff should also see time, another big kid, excellent blocking TE. Alot of the others need to put weight on and get stronger.....Priest and Allen should add a different look in the backfield along with Walker. Harrison got in Genyk`s doghouse and we all know what happens when you get in there, and T. Jones will most likely be moved to RB. They would like to keep D.White at WR.....right now Allen, Priest, Walker and Jones doesnt look like a bad backfield.......

Jake Vermiglio verballed to NC State. The McCloskey guy as expected switched over to Cincy and rivals has updated that. We had two weekend vistors by a three star rivals Michigan DL who was hosted by Hunt and it went well and now we are one of these top three picks. We also were visited by a very fast speed merchant from Florida who enjoyed his visit and his choices are between us, Kent St and UNLV. One of our JUCO QBs is scheduled for a visit this coming weekend.

The D-Lineman orginally commited to Minnesota. If we get him that would be huge. Also the JUCO QB would be nice so we could have nice insurance incase Schmitt gets hurt again and we would be able to redshirt McMahon.

New recruit Aeric Clay from Toledo Bowsher. See thread on Toledo MACbbs board. A reach with good potential. I actually see him somewhere else but RB.

The kid is really, really fast and has potential. Most schools didn't look at him to start with because he just started to play varsity football this year. Then we he got injured and missed the rest of the season, everyone but EMU backed away. He only has 12 quarters worth of varsity high school football experience.
That said, the kid has potential and given a redshirt year and time to learn the college game he could really turn out to be a good get for EMU.

A few observations. EMU has had problems every year finding the "main man" at RB. This had led to recruiting 3-4 RBs each year. This in turn hurts recruiting at other positions especially since the max freshmen scholies are set at 25. Now Clay would be great at 217 pounds to be a TE, WR or LB if he had high school experience and good hands with some strength conditioning. Genyk usually has done well with his reaches ie Holtzclaw and White and others not highly recruited or under the wire. But we really need to build depth at other spots besides RB. I don't question Clay's talent, just did we need another RB with two in the fold?
Also question: Is part of the problem at RB coaching? I don't know.

This topic of Genyk's contract was a point of endless discussion on the old M Dead forum. I believe he received a five year extension laden with incentives.
I know that it seems weird after going 1-10, but its paid off recruiting wise this year. Kids like stability and all one needs to do is look at MSU, CMU, Tulsa and Cincy to see the effect of the coaching merry go round. One needs to look a little (and I mean little) beyond the record and the net
result is this: Before Genyk EMU was not even competitive in MAC games and was a easy win. Now coaches in the league will tell you that Genyk has done a great job of getting EMU from the on the field laughingstock it once was-no more easy W when you play Ypsi. Off the field there's alot of work to be done with alum, the community and students and facilities.
I don't know but we need some impact players to take us from being close to games to being able to close games with a W.

Speaking of Genyk...
I wonder how active Genyk and staff have been with recruiting CMU's recruits that committed to Kelley. The door is open...

I actually hope Genyk won't look at CMU recruits. Genyk has always marched to the beat of his own drummer when it comes to recruiting. He evaluates many at EMU's football camp and I think he does have connections among the college ranks ie read how Holtzclaw ended up at EMU. Genyk really scouts his players and I might add Ramsey is no slouch at doing this either ie our JUCO guard Bunkley? wasn't highly recruited. I think both coaches look at what fits into their system. And man oh man does Genyk like to tinker with guys when it comes to positions you were a tight end but now you are a defensive end with tight end speed.
Lets hope those schools desperate for recruits and hiring coaches late don't come around being cannibals around our recruits like Kelly did with the one kid out of Dayton.
