Tonight was without a doubt the worst performance I have seen from a kent state team since the last 10 minutes of the loss to YSU in 02. They had no heart or energy and had no execution. I was sorely embarrassed and ashamed of the effort. Q would have helped a little on the boards. I

Eric Haut made the point, post-game, that the new players have got to realize what an effort it takes to win D I games....still, a quick look at the stats shows that the game could still have been won had Kent shot from the line like the better Kent teams have traditionally, even going back to the 1980's (granted, Cleveland State didn't shoot all that much better from the charity stripe, either). The same can be said about the Butler game. I have always been more than obsessed about the absolute need to hit free throws. Great free throw shooting can make up for lapses in other areas. I mean, for cryin' out loud, they're called FREE throws, and they miss about half of them tonight, and more than 30% of them against Butler. Hitting in the 70% range and they beat Butler, and have a chance of pulling out a win against Cleveland State, even playing poorly. Sure, a superb team can win big even though poor at the line, but most can't. A mid-major team can't. A MAC team can't.

If Gary Waters can get people in Cleveland interested in CSU basketball we nor Akron will be able to compete with CSU anymore. They have a tremendous recruiting advantage over us because of the facility they play in, The conference they play in is a basketball league(not sure what the MAC IS) that is making a commitment to play big time basketball.Hell we have one of the top 20 programs in the country over the last 8 years and nobody in Kent cares except when we play Akron.Walsh college sold 1500 tickets to an exhibition game they played at Ohio State and i bet we didnt have 50 fans in C-bus when we played the Buckeyes. As a recruit you would have a hard time convincing me to go to Kent and play in front of 3000 fans if Waters can get 6-8000 showing up at the Wolstein Center! 04-rock

Well, as of now CSU isn't playing in front of too many fans. If you take away the numerous Kent fans that made the trip, there weren't a whole lot of CSU fans. As an almost exclusive commuter school, they have a difficult time in getting students to the games. Were there like 25 CSU students there tonight??

They will get more fans. I think that with waters running this team, it will not be the pushover CSU team that we have beaten easily before. It just hurt to see the effort (or lack thereof) tonight, especially with the FT shooting.

Agree Dan.

It was a nice crowd...probably close to 50-50 (at least I saw a bunch of cool KSU logo apparel!).

Not many CSU students, and I think the ones that were there...had to be there. CSU softball was doing the 50-50 raffle. I saw some CSU women's hoopsters.

It's tough being a commuter school. You really have to draw on the community...and the community isn't going to travel to downtown Cleveland without a product.

free throws aside, CSU completely out Kent Stated us. When the refs start calling traveling and carrying the ball and the other team gets the bosy fouls called down low its usually bcz the other team is hustling a bit more. that goes the same for loose balls and tipped rebounds going to CSU, they wanted it more. They wanted this win. It might be the only marquee win they have all year. Kudos to Coach Waters.

This team is still finding itself. JC usually doesnt show a whole lot early in the season. We didnt see that low post trap defensivley til mid year last year, if I rememebr right and that was a staple of our defense last year. I hope that there is more to come from this team. I think we will see improvement in the next few games and a better showing against Duke

GO FLASHES!!!!
