I'm the same way with the FedEx logo. I didn't know about that arrow for the longest time. Now, that's all I see.

I am constantly amazed at how many people, even BigTen fans, never noticed this.

Same here.

I also never knew about the 11 in the Big Ten logo until Justin pointed it out to me.

The 11 was added in 1990 when Penn State joined the conference

And who designed it?

It was an alumni from a lowly directional school in a city of about 40,000 that likes to prevent students from drinking.

That son of a *****!
You're thinking of it all wrong.

Oh?
Yeah, it's a good thing to have your alumni creating world-wide (at least country-wide) recognizable branding.

Or, you can just take it from the perspective that he took their money to create a logo.

I was commenting that he went to a lowly directional school, and therefor is a son of a beyotch! Too bad it wasn't you who designed it.
Oh, yeah, those lowely sons a .....
I mistook where you were going with that.
I wish I had de$igned their logo.

i ran across this interview with the creator of the fedex logo. pretty interesting how they go about desiging this stuff. i guess he did the ncaa logo too, among others. wish i was that creative. seems like a pretty sweet gig.

Thanks for the link. That's good stuff. I particularly liked this analogy: [i]To have filled in the arrow, or to somehow make it more

The logo has been like that for many years, you've never noticed it before? 01-wingedeagle ;-)

They changed it when Penn State joined the Big Ten, which was 1993. They did technically join the conference in 1990, but did not compete athletically untill 1993.

Here's another interesting Big Ten question that I'm sure you'll all be amazed by.....

What was the original name of the Big Ten conference?

What year did the name officially change to the Big Ten?

Whoever knows BOTH of these answers gets a dancing banana. ;-)

I forgot the original name, but "Big 10," though it had been known as that for year, only became official in 1987.

The original name was Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives

It was known as the "Western Conference" informally for many years.. which is why Michigans fight song ends with "Hail Hail to Michigan, the Champions of the West"

The league OFFICIALLY became the Big 10 in the 1980's (I want to say 1987)...

02-13-banana 02-13-banana for both of you.

I remember reading that the Big Ten didn't officially become the Big Ten until 1987 and I was shocked, but it is true.

It's in the ESPN College Football Almanac, the greatest book in the history of the world. I highly recommend it. 04-bow
