Noticed that D. Williams was not on the roster for the spring game. Is he still in school? If he is, is he earning his way back on the team by going to class and getting his school work taken care of.

I saw him at the scrimmage on the sidelines in street clothes. Don't know the answer to the rest.

Every once in a while when I pass in front of the conference center I see him on the steps talking to his friend's. I would guess he's trying to make it back, but we'll see what happens when the fall semester hits.

I for one really think or know that we need Devin Williams on the team for sure because he is a good player and he has the records to prove it. Lets hope that he will be playing for the Cajuns this year.

What do you mean we need D. Williams on the field? If he were to make it back do you realize that he is behind Babb (starter), Sniewski (back-up), and Lane (3rd string). No way he sees the field this year even if he does get back on the team. He messed up last year and he's paying the price right now.

The coaching staff knew when they signed Williams that there was a very strong probablity that he would be a prop. With that said, even if he had made straight A's last semester he still could not have participated in Spring Drills until he completes a full year of school. IF he is eligible come the fall he will have earned it and hopefully have his head on straight and IMHO should be welcomed with open arms by the team. IF he does those two things I would not be suprised to see him pass up Lane and maybe even Sniewski on the depth chart. Why? because he is the "type" QB we need in our offense. Look at Babb and Desormeaux, Williams plays the same way. Strong arm and can run if need be. Luke looked pretty good in the spring game but I don't think anyone who saw the game would say he is very mobile. He reminds me of Van Cleave in that he has a strong arm but cannot move out of the pocket. There is nothing wrong with that except our offense is geared toward the more mobile QB. If something should happen to Babb we would/will have to either change our offense to suit Luke's style more or we will have to use Williams (if eligible, no college experience) or Desormeaux (a true freshman). Either way we better hope Jerry can stay healthy this season.

If Devin Williams does make it on the field then great, if not we move on. I've heard he has alot of talent but until he is eligible he is useless to us.
Jerry Babb is our starter and I pray he remains injury free. Luke Sniweski (sp?) has quite an arm but lacks mobility. This will put added pressure on the offensive line. With Babb he can roll out of the pocket quickly and find targets.
I think I have more questions than answers after spring drills and look forward to august to see how things have developed.

Right now you have to assume that he's not going to be eligible and have to move on. If he does make the grades and makes it on the team then that's a bonus, but if not then you weren't expecting him to make.

Swamphound,
I didn't realize that props worked that way. If you are correct and D. Williams is eligible in the fall, I am behind him 110%. However, if he is not, no big deal because I am not counting on him being here anyway. I listened to an interview Coach Bustle gave at the end of last year and he said something to the effect that he was not happy with D. Williams (specifically his abscense from the team) but he said he can not worry about that. He must focus on the guys who are here and who want to be here. He did not elaborate, but it sounded to me like there was more to the story than just D. Williams being ineligible. I will try to find the link for you.

Guys,
there is a post on raginpagin.com titled Coach Bustle interview (or something to that affect) on the first page. It is the audio clip I was talking about. Listen to it and about 1/4 of the way into the interview Coach talks about the status/ future of D. Williams. I don't think he would have recruited 2 QBs if he thought D. Williams would be around IMHO.

SwampHound,
I'm afraid I also agree with RajinCajun77 that I have a lot more questions than answers after watching the Red & White game. I just hope things are a lot better in August.OLOR=red]

To tell you the truth, I talked to one of the players and I heard some stuff about D Williams that makes me believe he wont be here. Believe me, there is more to the story than grades, but there are 2 other things that are beating down on williams that make me believe that even if he does make it he will either switch to another position, or probably play behind Babb and Desormeaux.

I heard the interview and agree that by the wording and tone that there is more to the story than just grades (if you noticed in my post I said if his is eligible and if he has his head on straight). I know nothing more about Williams for certain other than he was a highly recruited player and signed with us and could not play last year due to grades. Anything else I could say here would only be rumor, which I will not do. I feel this young man can be an assest to our team but (like most things in life) it is all up to him.

Don't forget about Ross Concordon(sp?). Heard he was a pretty good athlete and smart.

He played running back or fullback in he spring game, he had 2 yards on 2 carries. IMO, running back is not his best position. Would have liked to have seen him at QB. I could not understand why Babb was the only QB on the red team. Luke, Lane and Corcoran were all on the white team.

I would love to, but I dont feel its right of me to do that kind of thing on a message board for all to see, not right to him. If you want, I'll send you a PM and give you some insight, just not on the forum itself.
