JONESBORO, Ark.—Arkansas State standout defensive tackle Corey Williams was selected by the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the sixth round of the draft.

Williams (6-4, 305) becomes the first Indian to be selected in the NFL draft since Carlos Emmons was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round in 1996. and the highest draft pick from ASU since former All-Pro receiver Fred Barnett was taken in the third round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1989.

Williams had a stellar junior season after registering nine sacks and 76 total tackles for the Indians. Overall, Williams ends his career 14.5 sacks and 135 total tackles after playing three different positions during his time at ASU. Williams also battled injuries as a senior and was limited most of the season. Still, Williams was named second-team All-Sun Belt after his senior season and was a first-team selection as a junior.

ASU signed Williams out of Harmony Grove where he was a star fullback, rushing for 1,473 yards. Williams also played defensive end and linebacker while handling punting and kicking duties at Harmony Grove.
