The number of designated games in the 2004 football season dropped from 12 to four, with an agreement by league members to count seven conference games towards the 2004 Sun Belt football championship and determination of the New Orleans Bowl participant. The league champion will be determined by winning percentage. The four designated games are – Oct. 2 New Mexico State at UTEP, Oct. 23 Louisiana-Monroe at Florida Atlantic, Nov. 6 FAU at Troy, and Nov. 13 NMSU at FAU. Middle Tennessee will be the only team to play a full eight-game conference schedule in 2004.
