ULM calls news conference to discuss Sun Belt
July 15, 2004

Louisiana-Monroe has scheduled a news conference for Friday where the university will announce its plans for full membership in the Sun Belt Conference.

ULM is already aligned with the Sun Belt for football and swimming and diving. The school's 15 other sports compete in the Southland Conference, which sponsors I-AA football.

The Carr Report - a review of ULM athletics prepared and presented by Carr Sports Associates to the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors - recommended that the Indians move forward in joining the Sun Belt in all sports in late June.

Less than a week later, the university sent a letter to Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters expressing interest in the move. ULM then sent a letter asking for release from the Southland Conference in two years.

The news conference is to be held at 2 p.m. in the Conference Center on the 7th floor of the ULM Library.
