Hedlund Announces 2004 Soccer Schedule

DENTON - The University of North Texas has announced its 2004 soccer schedule, which is highlighted by home games against Baylor, Houston, and metroplex rival SMU. The Mean Green will open the season on Friday, August 27 at home against Louisiana Tech.

"Once again I believe are non-conference schedule should prepare us to make another run at a conference title," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund.

North Texas also has non-conference road games against Texas A&M, Rice, and Southwest Missouri State. The Mean Green open up Sun Belt Conference play on September 29 against Arkansas-Little Rock. North Texas will visit defending conference champion Denver on October 8 and close out conference play against FIU on October 31 at home.

The 2004 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held November 3-6 in Miami, Fla. The Mean Green is coming off a 15-6-1 season which saw them advance to the SBC Championship game for the fourth consecutive year. The 15 wins are tied for the most in school history.

North Texas returns first-team all-conference selection in forward Melinda Pina who scored 21 goals and had 47 points last season. The Mean Green also have back goalkeeper Briana Buchanan who collected seven shutouts in her first season with North Texas.

Does either UNT or ASU have their own soccer field? We are finally going to have one this year, after the 4 or 5th season (not sure). It will be in the middle of the renovated track field.

We have a nice little complex now across 35 for the ladies and they deserve it.
Should be fun this year for them.

It has, unfortunately, been a few years since I was last at stAte for a football game. There was a soccer field adjacent to the North end zone; it was new and is probably much nicer now. But then, maybe not . . .
