It holds a little over 17,000. Plans are in the works to build a 33,000 seat stadium on the same spot as that one. No time frame on when that'll happen though.

I'm not MaXx but thanks for the compliment you guys.....We have the only on-campus stadium south of Gainesville, FL (University of Florida). This includes UCF, USF, Miami, FAU, & Bethune-Cookman.
Per the Coach and AD, we are looking at plans to build a stadium similar to that of Univ. of Chattanooga (site of the I-AA Championship Game) or that of Troy's "Movie Gallery Stadium". I just hope that it's as filled up as in the pic for all of our games this year :D

Approximately 2200 - 2500 students at last check. This number pales in comparison to the total student population of 34,000. We need these people to come to the games and fill up the bleachers. But it is hard especially when you're a commuter school like we are.

I knew you guys had a large student enrollment but was not sure what percent lived on campus. You are correct, it is tougher when you have a large commuter population but not impossible. Still a very young program with developing rivals and fan base. Florida loves football. Coach Strock will put a good product on the field (I would exepct a winning season in the next 3 years) and the fans will come. You are also correct in that the importance of student involvement in supporting the athletic programs cannot be taken seriously enough.

The Master Plan for our main campus (University Park), calls for new residence halls being built shortly. There's one residence hall in the "pipeline" that should be finished within the next 3 -4 years that will house 800 more students. More dorms are in the Master Plan, but to be built at a later date. Residential life is one component, which in my opinion, needs a major uplift in the overall scheme of things in our University. Given the mission and history of FIU, it would always be a predominantly "commuter" college, but if we can get to close to 5,000 living on campus, it would presumably help greatly in terms of spirit and student participation.

FIU is already one of the 25 largest Public Universities in the nation with over 34,000 students....and also the youngest institution in that list. Putting things in perspective, FIU is supposed to grow to a 40,000 student population within a decade, and having at least 10%-15% living on campus should be a goal to be met, in my opinion. Even though 10% is not an eye-popping figure  , having 4,000 or 5,000 on campus is pretty good for most colleges, and a great potential market from which the Athletic Department can market our "Sports Product".
