Another thing to keep in perspective is not just the amount of students living in on-campus housing but in and around the University. I envision the area around FIU - particularly the area sandwiched between the Engineering Campus and UP - to become more of a college town type area. This is slowly happening. Many students are living in the apartments in and around the campus. As the overall student population increases, so will the amount of students living near the school. Many upperclassmen and graduate students wouldn't be caught dead in on-campus housing. I personally know several students living around campus. It's also cheaper!

As for the new buildings: the new dorm slated next to the lake (by the new museum) has passed the bidding process. From what I've observed over the years, construction should start next year on the building and construction should last no more than 12 months. Everglades Hall was done in this timeline. There will be a lakeside complex and in the lot where the Education Building and the new Grad School of business is located there will be another quad of housing in the future. Currently, between both campuses the University can accomodate 2601 students (from FIU site). Don't forget, the new Greek housing will add to this number as well.
