Students might show up if it is held at Fatty's. Otherwise forget any students coming out for such an event. They don't show up at the games let alone show up for something like this. NIU is a football school now.

Tickets for the Aurora U. game (Nov. 26) and Kansas State game (December 20) are $1 each. How can you beat it?

One dollar for Aurora may be a bit steep and feels like getting ticket scalped.

Wow what a bunch of retarted posts.
The alumni show up for one game now they are telling the students how to act.
Here is an idea, you guys show up for more than 1 game a season, then talk. Until then just be happy students show up for the start of the game.
I know what ur gonna say. "we have jobs families ect ect." Well cool, but keep ur ******in mouth shut then. I've never seen more people cry about a sellout.
In all fairness, people of all ages leave early, just seems to be a mass exodus from the student section at halftime especially.
Home games seem like a downer after all the road games where the energy is so high. The energy from the people at the away games is something phenomenal. I guess to me it is disappointing to see so many half hearted casual fans at home games now who can't bear to have an extra hour taken out of their Saturday afternoon. The thing that is worrying me is that this is getting worse and worse with each passing home game, the energy is getting less and less.
And cyberdawg, I agree winning helps attendance for bball. But there is absolutely no reason why 2500 people shouldnt be in the seats for every home game. How can a student enrollment of 25,000 not hardly support a 2,000 attenance. Didn't mean to offend anyone with the comment, but I just thought it was a lousy showing by NIU fans on saturday.
You know, I've been at a lot of games over the years, and in the last few, when the crowds have gotten big, I can say that I have seen students stay and West siders leave. This weekend was particularly bad. The benchback seats emptied out at half time. I assumed they all went to get eats. But many did not come back! I was on the east side, and in the second half it was still packed where I was, and from what I could see. Maybe it looked like it emptied out from the other side, I don't know. But in general, I think it's time to stop knocking the students! It seems to me they are doing their job--- showing up - bringing their enthusiasm, and building huskie pride!!!

It is easier for the West siders to comment since they see the hords of students walking away from the stadium. Saturday's game was a tough one to watch. Penalities and turnovers seemed to kill any enthusiasm. Plus it got cold and a lot of people were not dressed for the drop in temperature.

I guess you have a point, it was a collective bad crowd. Who knows maybe people are just out of energy after what has been a crazy run the past 3 years.

Alum mentioned he will not renew his basketball season tickets this year.
Got me thinking... what would you guess the renewal % will be this year?
Any idea what the season ticket base number is in the lower bowl?
Those of you who are first timers this year... have you been assigned seats and if so where?

Anybody who routinenly attended games last season will have noted that a big chunk of the people sitting in the lower bowl were NIU faculty, administration and staff members. Take away that captive audience plus the local Farmer Ted crowd, and the joint would have been nearly empty.

I'm actually considering buying season tix this year, but work and familial obligations will likely keep me from doing it. I just don't see myself being able to get to enough of the weekday games.
That 4-pack is looking like a really attractive option. The 4 weekend games for $20. Add to that the two $1 games and that's about all I'll probably be able to get to this year.....
Of course there is something to be said for buying the season tix just to secure the seats for when they get good.....

I think G is the only season ticket holder this year!
I plan on making it to as many games as possible. G and I are going to start up the Dog Pound again!

I hope you guys have success. It would be nice having that home court advantage.
I find it interesting that a graduate and a potential future NIU student are leading the charge. What does that say?

What's the dog pound? Is that like Duke's Cameron Crazies? I saw like only two students get crazy at the basketball games I went to last year. I've been to High School basketball games with more enthusiasm than we had last year. This team needs to start winning, or at least get above .500 this season.

Anyone check the roster on the NIU website. Only 10 scholarship players, 7 guards, two centers and a forward. No Craig Reichel. Did he transfer? Also, Paradise is one of the guards. Is he even 100% healthy this year? If one or two players go down again, it looks like last year all over again. And if James Hughes in foul trouble, we will get eaten alive inside with our big men being McKenzie and Peterson as our "big men". I remain hopeful, but skeptical.
We have a decent 7 or 8 man rotation but little depth. Hughes, Peterson, and McKinney will start for sure. With Simms, Rand & Mastranzi battling for the two remaining starting spots. Plus there is Pancrantz and Lipkins.

Reichel is listed on the alphabetical roster, but not the numerical roster. I assume it's a mistake on the site....
You really gave me a scare there, FT. Not that I expect Reichel to be a huge star, but we'd be hopelessly thin inside without him....

And one of those students was actually an alum.

lol, what a hodgepodge of crap. I don't think half of these posts know what sport they're even talking about.
While I agree NIU is a "football school" now, I'll come to some basketball games. There's no way I can get as hyped as I do about football, and honestly it's easier for me to drive 800 miles round trip for saturday football than it is for me to drive 90 miles round trip for Wednesday night basketball and make it to work again on Thursday. But given the chance to do some yellin and blowin some steam with HMM and G I'll do it where possible.
If they got good maybe it would be a different story. I wasn't a big football fan til the team got good a few years ago, but I no longer consider myself a bandwagon fan, I'll stick with them no matter what.

Hey Alum why the shot about Farmer Teds? Most people in DeKalb/Sycamore are not involved with farming. Not that agriculture is something to be ashamed of. Agribusiness is big business today with fewer farms and bigger operations.
No excuse for non student fans attending basketball games in bigger numbers especially on weekends. Most of the 'burbs and Rockford with its 150,000 population are one hour or less drive time to the bright lights of DeKalb. People commute to work as long or longer than that.
The biggest problems are:
(1) Lack of any "star" players. Smallwood was the closest we have had in recent years.
(2) Lack of any name competion (This year at least we get DePaul and Kansas State)
(3) Poor winning record
(4) Poor performance in the MAC
(5) Lack of any rivalries (We no longer play UIC for example and there is no sustained play with any local or regional schools such as Loyola, Wisconsin, ISU and Bradley as another example)
(6) Dull style of play

I love farmers and I love the locals in the DeKalb/Sycamore area. "Farmer Ted" is my endearing description for the folks who live in the area. My point was that if you take away members of the NIU administration, faculty and staff plus the "Farmer Ted" crowd, there were few NIU alums in attendance at basketball games. And the student section was no great shakes either. Its a BIG problem. The basketball public is soured on the direction of this program and have elected to stay away from the Convocation Center until Rob Judson is replaced with a credible coach.
