I am a Deacon fan and I was wondering what you guys thought of Grobe? Are you upset he left and how is the new coaching working out? I know you had a rough season last year so I hope this year works out a lot better.

I miss Coach Grobe and assistants. Not only were they fine coaches, but class acts as men. They were direct, honest, positive, and upbeat...was always a pleasure to talk with them. They were great motivators and coaches. I think it was tough for our guys to lose the whole staff....to have to get used to all new people but the head guy was rough....we came out intense in the first part of the season; but with some bad breaks along the way, we crumbled.
Coach Grobe will do your program proud!
That said, I believe this year's Bobcats are going to surprise a few people...we'll win our share this season. (notice I have my fingers and toes and eyes crossed for luck!!)

Now I will introduce you to reality.

In the 11 seasons before Grobe, Jim became the head coach of OHIO FOOTBALL, the Bobs won only 17 games. For Grobie to go 33-31 in his six (seven?) years was terrific. He would have gone about 10-2 with last years team, laden as it was with about 18-19 returning starters and an All-American punter. Grobe is a great coach. Great.

He had OHIO FOOTBALL turned around, headed north of respectability into powerhouse. We can only hope that Coach Knorr significantly turns things around this year. He must win at least--at least--seven games...or he must go.

Well, there's no doubt about the positives Jim Grobe brought to OHIO football, but if he has one downfall, it was his inability to win the big game. His teams just never came through in the clutch when we had the title in front of us.

<img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> See Akron game 2000, loss at home when we knew we had to have it
<img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> Miami game 2000, seven days after being given new life in the title race, blew a late lead
<img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> See Marshall game, 97 - just dominated
<img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> See Ball State 96 - blew huge lead

Of course, <img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> was followed each time by <img border="0" alt="[Drinky]" title="" src="graemlins/drinky.gif" />

My biggest complaint to is the Big Game losses by Grobe. Most people would say Grobe got the ball rolling with recruiting at Ohio. But was the influx of talent really due to Grobe?, or had Ohio arrived as a legitimate 1-A institution, more attractive to recruits than the average MAC school, even when 1-10.

Remember to think when you drink.

The 'big game' criticism is somewhat valid. Yet, Grobe led us to find victories over 'sota in the HomerDome and we thrashed herd in Athens in Grobe's last game. At least Grobe got us in a position to have "big games."

KC, the thought that players came to OHIO because we are a superb institution is absurd. You've been making good points lately, but not here. No star looks to go to a school with a history of 17 wins in 10 years. Stars look to go to prominence-(on the field!), to play against top competition and to play on TV. That was not OHIO before Grobe. He made OHIO become that.

Take this test with a blindfold over last year. That is, forget about the results of last year; answer this question as if it was asked of you before Grobe left OHIO FOOTBALL. If you could have Grobe back, would you take him?
