The University of Louisiana at Monroe's home football opener against Arkansas State will be the climax of a busy day of activities on the campus Saturday that include "Military Day," skydiving, shrimp, and fireworks.

ULM plays Sun Belt Conference foe Arkansas State at 6:30 Saturday evening, but there are plenty of other activities, beginning with a big "bang" - the implosion of 12-story Olin Hall at 10 a.m. The residence hall, a ULM landmark for decades, will be demolished to make room for new campus housing along Bayou DeSiard. The evening will end with a series of smaller "bangs" in a patriotic fireworks show after the football game.

"We want to make this a day to remember and we have a number of activities that will provide entertainment for the whole family," said ULM athletics director Bobby Staub. "This will be our first home game and first conference game, so we're expecting a big crowd. As part of our Military Day observance, we are offering free admission to the game for all military personnel and one guest with military ID. It should be quite a night."
