You guys got a great QB recruit last year with Omar Jacobs. This guy will be a player. He is a sleeper and will be one of the best QB's in the MAC in a couple of years. I wished UCF would have went after him.

We were pretty jazzed to get him, and jazzed about our recruiting class in general. Usually, the only talent we pull out of Florida seems to be, like, kickers.

Knighttime,
I read that Jacobs was the 2nd or 3rd rated QB in Florida last yr? threw for over 1500 yds int he state playoffs???!!! I was so excited to land this kid cuz Josh Harris has two years left and then....Omar! Is it true Fla St wanted him pretty badly until he broke his thumb? BTW, Welcome to the MAC...Best of luck this year...
GO FALCONS!!!!!

Fla. State was probably talking with him, but I don't think they ever offered. UCF was going after a guy named Avery out of Atlanta. To make a long story short, he signed with Memphis on signing day. I wished we went after Jacobs.

I'm a Florida recruiting junkie. Jacobs was the 6th rated QB in Florida and 82nd overall by Bill Buchalter. FSU was only looking to sign one QB this past recruiting year because their top 2 guys are freshmen (sophomore's when the season starts). That one guy was always Wyatt Sexton (#2 rated QB), who's also the son of an FSU assistant coach. As for the 1,500 yards in the playoffs where did you hear that? He had 1,657 yards and 20 TDs for the WHOLE season. He has all the intangibles with size, athletic ability, and enormous upside potential though.
UCF went after two guys: Justin Tyler, a stud (ranked 15th by Rivals.com) pro-style QB from Macon, GA and Maurice Avery a really fast dual-threat QB from Atlanta, GA. UCF only wanted one QB this past recruiting season because local STUD Steven Moffett is the main target for 2003. Maurice committed to UCF first and was sticking to it up until signing day when his basketball coach somehow convinced him to go to Memphis. His own mother and football coach didn't even know. They had all kinds of UCF stuff hanging around the signing table. His basketball and football coach also got into a fist-fight because of it. Losing him didn't really hurt because I think he might have been moved to wide receiver in the future anyway (good size and outstanding speed). The part that hurt was because of his commitment UCF told Justin Tyler when he called a week before signing day that they already met their QB requirement. So he signed with Mississippi State. Justin Tyler is also a baseball stud so he would have been playing baseball for us as well. So, screw you Mo Avery. If you didn't commit we would have Tyler.

Thanks for the good information. In the last few years, MAC teams have begun to sign some quality recruits from Florida and we expect this will increase. Have you heard about any MAC football recruiting in Florida for the coming year? I think almost all MAC fans are very excited about UCF joining the conference. The future looks bright for the MAC. We have a super Commisioner (Chryst) and just hope we can keep him a long time. I believe most people who are astute followers of the game expect the MAC to continue defeating C-USA on the playing field, and UCF will play it's part in doing this.

Knight Prowler,
Sorry about my incorrect info on Jacobs...I can't remember where I read about him throwing for over 1500 yds in the playoffs but it sounded pretty far out there!
Salsa, good to see ya here! We gonna have fun again this year!
