Charges against suspended Western Kentucky linebacker Deion Holts will be dismissed upon completion of certain conditions.

Holts agreed to a pretrial diversion for first-time offenders in Logan Circuit Court on Wednesday, meaning that if he is not convicted of anything in the next five years, his charges will be dropped.

Holts was originally charged with third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking over $300 and third-degree criminal mischief in connection to a July robbery at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Russellville. According to a Russellville Police Department report, about $3,500 in golf clubs and bags were stolen.

According to the Logan Circuit Court office, the pretrial diversion requires Holts to pay $375 of restitution to the golf course and $149 in court costs. He will also have to perform community service.

Deon Holts will not play against Youngstown State tommorrow, but he has been in practice. Coach Elson is taking a good close look at Holts attitude and teamwork. If Holts behavior does not hurt the team, Coach may let the team captains vote on whether to let him play or not. Our secondary and linebacker corp is solid, but who could not use more depth and talent and Holts DOES have a whole lot of talent.

You know, its kind of funny... if members of the country club had given him several hundred dollars then not only would he not be playing but WKU football would be on probation. But if he steals several hundred dollars from them then there is a chance he could come back? I am all for second chances... but what message would this send to the other players and the community?
