RECAP.....
Mike Bath threw four touchdown
passes, including two in the final three minutes, as Miami of
Ohio rallied from a 10-point deficit to stun Vanderbilt, 33-30,
in the season opener for both teams.

Bath, who combined on a 91-yard TD pass with Sly Johnson in the
first quarter, capped the comeback by tossing a two-yard scoring
strike to Cal Murray with just 20 seconds remaining.

Vanderbilt appeared to be in control, taking a 30-20 lead on
Greg Zolman's one-yard TD run with just 4:03 play.

But Bath engineered an eight-play, 69-yard drive in just 70
seconds, tossing a four-yard TD pass to Mike Sullivan to bring
the RedHawks within four with 2:53 to play. The extra point was
blocked, forcing Miami to go for a touchdown on its final
possession.

The RedHawks elected not to attempt an onside kick on the
ensuing kickoff, but the defense held without allowing a first
down. After a third-down pass was incomplete, an unsportsmanlike
conduct penalty pushed the Commodores back to their 15.

Bath, who completed 24-of-41 passes for 358 yards, drove the
RedHawks 47 yards in nine plays for the winning score in only 85
seconds. Ty Buxton had eight receptions for 134 yards for Miami.

The teams combined for five touchdowns in a wild final 15
minutes. Zolman fired a 30-yard pass to Ray Perkins to give the
Commodores a 23-13 lead with 12:07 to play.

Miami pulled within 23-20 on Bath's nine-yard scoring strike to
Eddie Tillitz with 8:28 remaining.

Zolman completed 18-of-25 for 307 yards for Vanderbilt, which
has held to just 56 yards on the ground.

The only previous meeting between the schools came in 1899, with
Vanderbilt posting a 12-0 victory.
