Prediction for CMU is 5-7. I've gone on record as saying we'll win 5-7 games.

Since Pete Fiutak of College Football News finally let the cat out of the barrel about CMU being this year's BG, I'm going to go on record as saying this is the breakout year.

I'm predicting 6-6 as a worst case scenario and 8-4 as best case scenario. For this to happen CMU must dominate the line of scrimmage - playing the smash mouth football from days of old.

TJ can carry the rock with the best of them but key will be how well Vickers does under center. I'm encouraged by the reports I heard coming out of spring ball regards our receiving corps - namely the re-emergence of Steve Messam.

My goodness, with Turner and Messamm at the wideouts and the threat of TJ carrying the rock...well, like I said, Vickers is the key.

I hope you're right, BW. I'm projecting seven wins if everyone stays healthy and no huge mental mistakes. I'll be there for the Wyoming game, and if things go well up to the NIU game, I'll travel to DeKalb, which is only 2hrs away. I was there for the infamous "rain-game" when Flynn pissed it away. I let him verbally have it when he ran for the tunnel. I have a gut-feeling that DeBord will have this program on premium fuel this year. We have to dump that ugly-ass logo, though!

The logo issue is really very simple: 1.)Football-Chicago Bear "C"; 2.)Basketball-North Carolina letter mix of "C" & "M"; 3.)Baseball-Cincinnati Red "C". What could be simpler, and we would have the crowds back that we had in the 1980s. Oh, yeah, Herb's logo tastes are about as appealing as an astro-turfed car.

CE, it's great to hear from you again. How's everything over in Madtown? I always admired the way you keep our good friends from Kalamazoo in check!

You touched sore spot with me on that stinking logo of ours. I know we'll never get the spear back (as you well know, we had it before FSU) but I propose the perfect compromise.

A block "C" on white inside a gold oval with a feather attached. Essentially, the current Washington Redskins design but replacing the Indianhead with a blcok "C." Yes, it would be very similar to the University of Utah's logo, but I feel it would afford CMU the best of both worlds.

Otherwise, let's change our name back to Bearcats. I have this great idea for a letter "C" design that would look just like a cat's paw...Excuse me...Did you say something Mr. Huggins?

Already said this on the MAC board above, but welcome BW! You know, IF CMU ever changes its nickname (I'm against this, unless the S-C Tribe -- not some whining PC-ers on campus -- feels strongly that we should), how would everyone feel about "Griffons?" Fierce mythological creature, heck of a new logo possibility (half lion, half eagle), no offense to anyone.

OK, enough about hypothetical occurences. Hope you and CE are enjoying the summer. I stand by my 5-7 wins prediction. Less than that and even the optimist here (moi) will become irritated...

Actually CMF, the nickname I though would be great is Maroons, or Maroon Giants! Of course, this would satisfy our school colors and also allow us th creat a "Maroon Gian" mascot.

These are the high schools in Michigan I'm aware of named one or the other:

1) Kalamazoo Central Maroon Giants

2) Holland Christian Maroons

3) Menominee Maroons

I do like Griffins too. Do you know the history of the Griffin as it relates to Michigan history?

The Griffin was the name of the French vessel that was the first in recorded history to circumnavigate the Great Lakes. I believe Jaques Marquette has something to do with this chapter of our state history too.

D'oh! Can't believe I misspelled "Gryphon." That's what I get for posting while tired...

BW, CMF, sorry for not getting back with a reply, I was out of town yesterday on business. Every thing is GREAT in Mad Town, BW! I've been here nine years, and absolutely love it! Any time any of the browncows want to go one-on-one, I'm ready!

Have to disagree with you boys abou the logos. I remain steadfast about the three I've mentions. My wife is a graphic artist (MSU-boo!), and she did a terrific job of designing the three mentioned above in maroon, gold, with black & white trim. I know the students would like them, but the old-guard, I'm sure would reject them. Campus administrators are too parochial/provincial. Herb is so far behind in this area that his leisure suits still look good to him (as well as the Dodge Dart he drives. LOL!).
