Heading up to Mt Pleasant in Oct for what should be a tough hard hitting affair between BG and CMU...we have had a lot of close ones over the years and I always have had respect for CMU...You guys have one of the highest winning percentages in MAC play (I think CMU and BG are practically even behind Miami), have 4 MAC titles and will be making some noise in 2002. I look at CMU in 2002 like BG in 2001. In 2000, we led every MAC East opponent except for Akron in the 4th quarter and folded like laundry. Akron stopped us on their one yard line TWICE in the 4th and beat us 27-21 at Perry...We had Marshall down 13-0 at the half and 13-3 going into the 4th...we lose 20-13 on a 60 yd punt return with 2:45 left...totally collapsed and gave away the game.
The CHippewas have 20 starters back and a hunger to win the close ones instead of losing them...and like BG, CMU has a proud tradition and won't stay low in the standings for long...Seems that '94 title game was the kiss of death for both CMU and BG...
I see CMU at the most dangerous team in the West and I feel you have a legit shot to win the division. The whole thing can turn around in one short year.
Anyway, where is the best place to park at the stadium for tailgating? Or where do the visiting teams' fans like to congregate? I just need a little space for the brats, beers and chairs.
It'll be my first trip up to Kelly/Shorts...
I think CMU will win at least 7 games...
Best of luck and DON'T ever change the name "Chippewas"...its a classic as far as I concerned. I ain't kissing @ss, just bein' honest. GO FALCONS!

I also remember most CMU-BGSU contests fondly. The exception was a stinker of a game (for us) in 1999, when our team looked, with few exceptions, like it didn't care to try. That it was televised made it even worse. I believe it was after that game that the coaching staff was given its walking papers, with three games to go (we won the last two).

Tailgating! Just be warned that CMU has a new policy limiting things. Once the game starts, tailgaters must enter the stadium or go, and you can't start before -- I think -- 9am. Parking -- well, the closer to the stadium the better. Most of the tailgating occurs in the paved lots. As for food, can't help you. I believe CE may have some insights there.

Very classy post Falconfreak90. Let me just say that the feeling of respect is mutual. I know I share the sentiments of many CMU fans in welcoming BGSU to the MAC West. I've always felt that beyond WMU you are our staunchest rival.

I remember those great battles in the 1980s, in particular 1982 when Brian McClure battled the Falcons back for the victory at then Perry Shorts Stadium. Of course, I was at the "fat punter" game in '94 at Doyt Perry - still one of my fondest CMU Football memories.

At any rate, glad you are coming up to Mt. Pleasnt for the game. I agree with you that CMU has the potential to accomplish what BG did last season. As for getting to Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

You'll be driving up US 127, take the first Mt. Pleasant exit (left, BUS. RT 127). After traveling about one mile, you'll notice the stadium on your left. At the first light, take a left, then your first right (there will be signs and traffic cops). This will take you up the hill and to the south end zone parking lot. BTW, CMU is in the process of paving this lot and it's going to be very nice.

The ticket window is on the southwest side of the stadium and the visitors section is down in the southwest corner (10-20 yard line) of the field. Good luck in your travels and hope to see at the game.

FIRE UP CHIPS!

Thanx for the info fellas...
Ahhh yes...that infamous (for us) '94 game!
8 years later and it still is a bitter pill.
oh well, strange things can happen on the field...you had a guy that blocked 4 punts vs. MSU last year...that is unreal.

I already ordered my tix thru the BG tix office cuz I figured this game will draw well with Homecoming and all...My wife Dana and I will be coming in Fri night so if ya can recommend a motel or hotel close to the stadium that would be cool..with CMU's homecoming, I'm sure most places will be booked.

I believe the all time series is 18-16, BG.
Only 34 days until kickoff!!!! GO BG!!!

You are referring to James King. He had a bone to pick with MSU that day since they overlooked him coming out of Walled Lake Western High School thank you Spartans!

The more I think about our upcoming clash with BG, the more it begins to feel like another 1982/1994 barn burner!

As for a motel, there are a few down by the stadium and one in particular, I believe it's a Comfort Inn, that includes a Bennigans, just south of the stadium. If you can get in there, you could walk to the game. Make reservations ASAP because like you said, it is homecoming.

FIRE UP CHIPS!

Dear freakin' Falcon:

Make sure you get to K/S Stadium as early as possible for tailgating. If possible, park in the grass area (don't drive on the smoking stuff-that's for after the game) at the north end of the stadium. This area usually has the most boisterous fans, and they like to share their food and drink. Look for the band, "Va-China," I sometimes drum for them. In all my visits to K/S Stadium, I can say without any hesitancy, the BG fans are the classiest I've ever encountered. Very nice people! In fact, we got so Scooby Dood together, we were referring to BG as "CMU-South" and CMU as "BG-North!" A lot of fun and great memories.

Guys,
Thanks for the classy posts and words...

I checked on expedia.com and The Comfort Inn, Fairfield and Microtel are already booked.

Super 8, Baymont, Hampton and Best Western still have rooms left...whichever is most accessible to K/S Stadium is fine with me...Price isn't that big of a concern. Any suggestions?

Thanx for your help bros and I'm really looking forward to a great game and great crowd. GO BG!! GO MAC!!!
