Michigan has a number of quality defensive end prospects this year. In our seventh installment on recruiting prospects, we'll focus on six in-state defensive ends, including one who's already been mentioned as a TE prospect.
1) Chris Patrick (6-5, 245, 4.68) of Ithaca - Great size and athletic ability. Made 140 tackles including 20 sacks last season. Cousin Adam is a backup DT for CMU, while brother Joe starts at OG for MSU. CMU has offered Patrick, but he is believed to be considering a number of Big Ten offers.
2) Josh Powell (6-5, 240, 4.8) of Wyandotte Roosevelt - Great two-way player who excelled at both tight end and defensive end last season when he made all-state honorable mention. Great size and strength although he's not as fast as Patrick. Known suitors include CMU, WMU, BGSU, Toledo, U-M and MSU.
3) Antwaine Jackson (6-2, 230, 4.75) of Detroit Crockett Tech - Varsity starter at DT since his sophomore year. Has a big frame to add more weight. Known suitors include U-M, MSU, Penn St., UCLA and a host of MAC Schools.
4) Derek Pallin (6-4, 225, 4.8) of Ann Arbor Huron - Great size and speed. Another fine MAC prospect from a very good high school program.
5) Ken Schmidt (6-5, 230, 4.9) of Waterford Mott - Great size and strength. Schmidt has a big frame to add more weight. A nice MAC prospect.
6) Gary Zavalney (6-3, 240, 4.9) of Wyandotte - Will be a three-year two way starter this year at OG and DE. Last year as a junior he caused two fumbles, made 74 tackles, four sacks and three fumble recoveries. A very aggressive and hard-nosed player. He carries a 3.3 GPA.
