In our ninth and final installment of CMU football recruiting, we'll focus on the DB prospects. Although CMU recruited a number of quality defensive backs in the class of 2002, we'll probably recruit 2-3 more DBs to replace our losses. The State of Michigan has a number of quality DBs this year and CMU is in the mix for a number of them.

Cornerbacks

1) Samad Cain (6-2, 180, 4.5) of Detroit King - Great size and speed and loves to hit. Tallied 57 tackles and eight interceptions last season when he was named 1st Team All-Detroit and Honorable Mention Class A All-State. Cain is a top MAC prospect, but will probably end up in the Big Ten.

2) Mark Catlin (5-10, 175, 4.47) of Lowell - Magnificent athlete. Starts at both QB and DB for the Red Arrows. Will be a four-year varsity starter and three-time Grand Rapids Press All-Area Dream Team selection. Also made Class A 1st Team All-State last year. A prime target for CMU, Catlin has been offered. So far CMU is the only non-BCS school he is considering. Other know suitors include U-M, MSU, Iowa, Penn St. and Illinois.

3) Quintell McCollough (6-1, 190, 4.5) of Detroit Redford - A two-way standout who rushed for 1,600 yards and 14 TDs on offense and added 45 tackles and two picks on defense last season. Selected to the All-Detroit 1st Team as a junior. McCollough combines great speed and size and is a top MAC prospect.

4) Marc Zera (5-10, 170, 4.5) of U-D Jesuit - A three-year varsity starter and two-way standout, Zera completed 107 of 195 passes for 1,759 yards last season. He made 1st Team All-Detroit as a QB but projects as a CB in college. Zera carries a 3.6 GPA

5) Pierre Walker (5-10, 175, 4.5) of Detroit Central - Great speed and instincts. Walker ruched for 1,684 yards and 18 TDs as a sophomore and added another 1,400 yards as a junior. Walker was a Honorable Mention Detroit All-Metro selection last season. He's a fine MAC prospect.

6) Terrance Pride (6-0, 175, 4.5) of Detroit Southeastern - He has the speed and size to play bump and run. Pride was named 2nd Team All-Detroit last season and is another quality MAC CB prospect.

Safeties

1) Lonnel Bess (6-3, 215, 4.5) of Southfield Lathrup - Great all-around athlete who could play safety or OLB at the next level. Bess intercepted seven passes last season for which he returned five for TDs. A top-level MAC prospect who will probably also receive some Big Ten offers. Known suitors include U-M, MSU and a host of MAC Schools.

2) Deaudre Perry (6-1, 195, 4.5) of River Rouge - Yet another two-way standout, Perry will be a three-year varsity starter. Last season he intercepted five passes from his safety position. Know suitors include MSU, Iowa and a host of MAC Schools.

3) Symeon Cabell (6-1, 175, 4.5) of Cudahy (Wisc.) - A bigtime hitter who led Cudahy's secondary in tackles last season. Cabell is a two-way standout who projects as a safety in college. Know suitors include CMU, WMU, U-M, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Vanderbilt.

4) Marcus Robinson (6-2, 190, 4.55) of Albion - Will be a four-year varsity team member. Robinson completed 61 of 133 passes for 952 yards and 12 TDs last year. The team captain, he made 2nd team all-conference last season and is a fine MAC prospect.

5) DeMarkus Duckett (6-2, 190, 4.5) of Detroit Finney - Combines great size and speed. Duckett is yet another fine prospect coming out of the Detroit Public School League this year and expects to receive much interest from MAC Schools this fall.
