It'd be unfair to Owens NOT to let him have one more year, and actually use the new facilities. The facilities now are possibly the worst in the nation. Plus, Owens basically made all that happen by himself anyways.

Secondly, the players didn't play well on the offensive side at all. There may have been some coaching that could've been tweaked, but from what I could tell the injury to Miquel Irvin was huge. The other receivers obviously didn't have a clue, and forced Charlie to get sacked.

Defense is getting better and better...they at least gave us a chance to win. I think Owens deserves ONE more year, and if it doesn't get any better...boot him.

What new facilities will be in place next season? The fieldhouse is not due to be completed until Spring 2004 which means it will not be in use until the team is getting ready for the 2004 Fall season.

The practice complex at Buchtel Field is not going to be ready for ext year - there are still houses and businesses on that land as of this afternoon.

How does one more season of bad coaching, bad recruiting and bad morale help keep this program 1-A? Answer - it doesn't.

According to the Canton Repo article about UA Pres. Proenza speaking at the HOF luncheon, he supposedly said the fieldhouse would be in use next year. My guess is they will try to get it ready before the rest of the rec center project is done, given the urgent need. Having just been on campus I can tell you the steel is up and the roof is mostly on already. In another 8 months they should be able to slap on some siding, pour the floor and install the turf. As far as Buchtel Field is concerned, it's the current site of the women's softball field which will be moved to the NE corner of Lee Jackson Field but probably not until most of the work is done on the new student union. This will free up space for the grass practice field. What would be nice is if Softball could play over at Firestone Stadium for a year or two so they could get started on Buchtel Field ASAP.
