Most rumors swirl arounf Western Ky going to the MAC along with Temple, but I also hear that Middle Tenn. would accept if offered. What is everyone hearing? I think Middle Tenn would regret leaving the SunBelt which appears to be an up and coming conference.

As for WKU, I look at them as more of a detriment to the belt more than anything at the moment, because every time i turn around, their talking about leaving. I'm so damned tired of reading about WKU leaving that I'm acctually supportive of them going, good riddance. As for MT, I SERIOUSLY hope they dont leave, they helped build the belt, are improving in every single sport, and have some great fans as well. With that said, I wont be surprised if WKU goes to the MAC with as much MAC-******-Kissen as theyve done.

You need to add someone like Texas state and Ga. Southern to give the league a little security.

If Texas State was ever willing to move football to 1-A, I would support that addition. Ditto for UTSA should they ever decide to add football and go 1-A. Much like UNT, UTSA is growing very fast with projections upwards of 40K students within the next 5-10 years. And, its moving away from its "commuter school" tag with the addition of more on-campus dorms, etc. The San Antonio market would be a major coup for the SunBelt if that ever occurs.

Good point about UTSA Shof but you would probably have to arm wrestle CUSA to get them.

I don't doubt that they could evolve into a CUSA candidate; but right now, I don't see CUSA in the picture. Now, after a few years of growing a D1-A football program they could pull a UCF/USF and move up quickly while some of the smaller market schools stayed stuck in the SBC. CUSA leap is definitely putting the cart before the horse right now.

I do agree that UNT can be a player the next time CUSA comes calling for new members (from a similar thread). I only hope my Cajuns have made enough of an impression to be a player as well. One of the reasons our indoor practice facility needs to get going ASAP!

Shof

P.S. One of the reasons I'd like to see either Texas State and/or UTSA in the SBC is that I now live in San Antonio. Don't get to see much of my alma mater!

Wow...two CUSA posters debating on a SBC board...

CUSA would not accept UTSA unless they prove that they can last at a D-1A level. Plus, that would further push the division between CUSA-East and -West. ...but at least CUSA-East would get to reunite Tulane with two of it's biggest conference rivals...Southern Miss and Memphis.

I have a cousin who plays baseball for UTSA, he was telling me about that school. They have a great school just need to add football, basketball is good and baseball is also good.

MTSU had their chance with the MAC about six months ago. That chance has passed.

My sources say no.

I think the Belt is growing and improving. The MAC, I don't know. I just don't see the potential that is available from some of these southern schools.

If UL gets some continuity in football they can be very good. They're already badass in baseball and solid in basketball.

UNT has the size to build a great top to bottom athletic department.

Troy while having a down year in bball has the potential and good funding.

FAU and FIU are in freakin Boca and Miami respectively.

Ark. State, well every conference needs a step child don't they?

If Western would crap or get off the pot and decide to go I-A or not then it could set off another realignment.

Eliminate all non football schools. Move Western up to I-A and have a nine team league.

8 conference football games.
16 conference basketball games.
24 conference baseball games.

Those numbers sound pretty freaking good.

10 years from now I believe the SBC will have surpassed the MAC, WAC, Mountain West, and be breathing pretty heavily down C-USA's back.

Jeff - not to start a flaming contest; but if you had to guess, in which conference would you see WKU football? The SBC or the MAC?

I don't care.. I just want to go I-A!

Both conferences have their advantages and disadvantages. My biggest disadvantage to the MAC is it is a northern conference. I prefer a southern conference.

This needs more clarification. If you are talking about baseball and maybe even basketball, given the current MAC then I could maybe see this.

As for football, not going to happen. The MAC is already right up there with C-USA, MWC, and the WAC in football. The SBC is a little behind, but it is a young conference. If anything, all of these conferences could be on the same level in the future, but to say that C-USA and SBC are going to be that much better than the MAC, WAC, and MWC is just not rationale thinking.

You're crazy if you think the MAC is on par with the Mtn. West or even C-USA football wise.

Outside of Toledo and BG they're not.

The MAC East is horrible.

Plus it's simply a matter of mathematics.

Whether you want to believe it or not FIU and FAU are going to be good. Their location just dictates that. I don't like it. FAU's a bunch of criminals coached by a criminal but they are.

UL is starting to put an emphasis on football and once again, too much talent and tradition in Louisiana.

UNT is on pace to be around the 4th or 5th biggest school in Texas.

I like the MAC. I like almost all of the schools in the MAC, but the SBC is only in its 5th year of existence in football and these schools athletic departments are in their infancy.

Most of these institutions are growing almost exponentially.

10 years from now the SBC will be a better top to bottom all sport conference than the MAC and the others listed and will have probably passed in football.

I just don't see the room for improvement from the MAC schools. Mainly, and what even some Western fans will admit to is that there seems to be a complacency in the MAC that doesn't exist in the SBC.

The MAC's better RIGHT NOW. But times are changing.

Good luck to Toledo next year. I've always liked watching them play. Chester Taylor was fun to watch.

I honestly think WKU will go to the MAC. Might not happen, but I think that there is a good chance. Personally, I think WKU could be successful in either conference... I would be excited about either. But the rumors have been very persistant. And not just on the internet. Jim Tirey claimed on his Lexington radio show that WKU would go to the MAC and a column in The Sporting News mentioned WKU as likely to go to the MAC with Temple. And I have heard the rumor multiple times around town. There may or may not be fire... but there is quite a bit of smoke.

Bowling Green Will be going back to East........ That means the conf will line up like this

MAC EAST
Miami OH
Bowling Green
Ohio
Akron
Kent
Buffalo

MAC WEST
Toledo
Northern Ill.
Ball State
Central Michigan
Western Michigan
Eastern Michigan
---------------------------------------------------------------

Lets see here in the past 3 years there have been 4 MAC teams here ranked, Toledo, N. Ill., Miami OH and Bowling Green. There have been 2 MNT West teams ranked in 3 years Utah and New Mexico in the AP but not in the Coaches.

In case you didn't know, or your head has just been uner a rock somewhere the new Head Coach of Ohio University is former Nebraska and Coach of the year Frank Solich. And I doubt they accept medocracy anymore.

Lets take a look down the line MAC vs Sun Belt, Team vs Team, head to head.

Best Teams

MAC- Toledo
Sun Belt- N.Texas

Toledo- Record 9-3 (OOC 1-2 CONF 8-2) Bowl Game: Motor City: Loss to UConn 39-10
N. Texas- Record 7-4 (OOC 0-4 CONF 7-0) Bowl Game: NO Bowl Loss to Southern Miss 31-10

2nd Teams

MAC Miami Oh
Sun Belt Troy

Miami OH- Record 8-4 (OOC 1-2 CONF 7-3) Bowl Game: Indepenance lost to ISU 17-13
Troy- Record 7-4 (OOC 2-2 CONF 5-2) Bowl Game:SVC. Lost to Nothern Ill. 34-21

3rd Team

MAC: NIU
Sun Belt: NMSU

Northern Illinois- Record 8-4 (OOC 2-2 CONF 6-2) Bowl SVC: Won over Troy 34-21
New Mexico State- Record 5-6 (OOC 0-4 CONF 5-1) Bowl: None

Want me to go on. I hate defending the MAC, but the SunBelt is light years away from even touching it. In the past 4 years the MAC has 14 wins over ranked oppts the Sun Belt has 1.

And how many times has the SBC beat the MAC head-to-head?
