Only a few starters return on offense. Brinker is finally gone. He's getting looks at some NFL camps, but no word on whether he'll be drafted.

QB Fred Ray returns, but he'll obviously be challenged by Ryan Hawk. Fullback Ray Huston returns (he's fast enough that he may end up at TB taking Brinker's place). We lost Dontrell Jackson, who turned into a non-factor last season when Fred showed he could run AND pass.

Most of our defense returns next season, but it will be interesting because we lost four-year starter CB Bop White, and FS Joe Sellers, two of our top defenders.

Brinker and White are pretty big loses.

RYAN HAWK! I remember him, wasn't he the Miami, Oh. transfer? He and Big Ben were recruited in the same year.

Hawk is a tough one...not particulary good for the OU offense, but hey you can always change the offense.

I predict Hawk will be used as a kind of "6th man" quarterback off the bench to shift the momentum while spelling Freddie Ray.

Every linebacker from last season's depth chart will be returning for serious opponent stoppage.

We recruited Hawk heavily out of high school. It was under Grobe at the time, but coach Knorr was the actual recruiter. We lost a tough battle for him. He's got the speed and he ran the option in high school.

Very true.

I think OU should change their offense to accomodate Hawk. Even though OU's offense has been pretty successful...maybe a change is what the 'cats need to get back towards the top of the league?

Well, yes, we now have a "white guy who can throw". 03-lol

But, in all seriousness, he had faster 40 times than both Dontrell or Freddie Ray last season when we clocked all the QBs. The hope is that he will take our current offense to the next level, rather than force a change.

Also, don't assume he will automatically take Freddie Ray's spot. He really had us cooking toward the end of last year, and he has a decent arm - threw for over 200 yards against UCF in the last game (that was our first 200 yard passing game since 1994).
