Kent plays football? I thought the only fall sport the Flushes played was Field Hockey. 03-confused

Golly that's funny! And from an Akron fan!
When exactly was the last time Akron won a MAC title in anything? I'm sure they have. Just not too many and not too often.
I love it when Zip fans want to rag on anybody's sports programs. You think you would be busy enough trying to get your own football team to .500 some time. Then work on the other sports. Give it time, Zippy.

I can't argue with the analysis too much. In fact, I pretty much concur with everything they say. Especially the comment that if they lose to YSU, it could all go downhill.

The one comment I disagree with is:

"It's doubtful that head coach Dean Pees will get much of a shot past this year if there isn't a little bit of a turnaround."

I still believe that Pees is at KSU at least through his current contract or as long as he can stand it. The admin doesn't want the turnover and who else is going to take possibly the worst job in college football. They won't want to pay two coaches on the limited budget.

I hate to say it,but I think that 4 wins may be it...

Axeme...you have lots of room to talk.

Hows it feel to get beat by a below .500 team 6 years in a row??

Try our soccer team if you're looking for MAC championships, btw.

Get a clue.

I'm usually the only Akron fan no this board...

And I rarely rag on teams....and if I do its for fun.

Your posts are ALMOST as big of a joke as your football team.

Get a clue.
We DO have lots of room to talk.
You want a clue?
We have the best athletic program in the MAC.
PERIOD!
End of discussion.
Come back when your athletic program rises above being a one or two sport wonder some year.
Last year: Akron 12th in men's sports, 11th in women's sports.
Kent #1 in men's sports, #2 in women's.
Akron: NEVER EVER finished in the top two in either.
You did win soccer. You beat the 5 other MAC schools that have it.

Frankly, I 'm surprised you would want to join your buddy REALIST at pointless bashing of our athletics on our board, but to each their own.
If the Zips claim to fame is that they consistently beat Kent at football, you are welcome to it. It's a big crowd you join, though. Despite our decades of football ineptitude, we still outshine the rest of the conference over all sports, and in our best years in football have done more than the Zips in theirs.
Why would you even want to jump in here? The Zips are perenially awful in almost every sport and at best mediocre. You can say your men's soccer team is better, but we don't have one.
Remember, it's you two--AO and REALIST--who have come here to make this case, as ridiculous as it is. I did not come on your board to start of bunch of nonsense, nor would I. And it is really ridiculous to offer the premise that Akron athletics have much going for them. Especially on the board of the MAC's #1 athletic program. Those are the facts. You may not like the facts, but they remain the facts.

Mmmk, we're not talkin lacrosse, badmitten, or grabass. That's great you're good at those though. You refer to "zip fans" as a whole...but since there are only two on here...where do you get off saying that? Uh oh! Look out...Kent's got the best athletic program! Fact of the matter is, we're talking about THE fall sport - football. Sure you can tell me your girls basketball team kicked our butts, but I could say our soccer team is ranked nationally every year.

You tell our football team to get above .500. Have you even gotten YOUR football team above .500 in this past decade? Check back a few years to when we had back to back winning seasons and a share of the MAC-East. You've been in the MAC longer than us too.

You take things way too seriously fella.

The Zips have had more success over Kent recently anyways.

Well, this all started because first one, then another Zip fan wanted to come over here and talk trash.
It is amusing that you want to brag about your soccer team then deride our "lacrosse, badmitten, or grabass" teams. I guess by that you mean men's basketball, baseball, track, golf, wrestling, etc. Like I said before, to each their own. Me? I would rather win the MAC All-Sports (which is weighted toward the major sports, btw) in any year than a title in one sport, even football, which to me (and obviously my alma mater! 03-wink ) is not that big a priority. And I'll take a basketball title over football any day. And nothing has ever happened to a MAC football team that I would trade for our Elite 8 run last year. But that's just what I think. Some people think football is the be-all and end-all.

Actually, our football team was last over .500 (6-5) in 2001. Yours? (This is where you say "We beat you, though! And we beat Marshall last year." )
It's the mark of weak programs to focus on isolated wins rather than the big picture. But you work with what you have. In football, we take the minor wins and bragging points when we can, too.

I'm a long suffering Flash fan. It sure hasn't been all gravy for us over the years, but we are enjoying our years in the sun now.

No need for animosity, here. I apologize if my tone earlier towards you was less than jocular. In a hurry, short of patience. This is all fun to me.
04-cheers

Jeez, it's really bad when Zips fans rag on us. Is Buffalo next?

If beating us in football once a year gives Zips fans this must pleasure, let's hope they never actually win any title, much less the Reese or Jacoby trophies. We'll hear about that for the next 25 years... because THEN overall sports records will MATTER.

When it comes to football, the Zips are allowed to rag on you. In anything else, YOU can rag on US :D

Tell me that doesn't mean we have to go rag on Buffalo.
We're just going to have to beat you guys this year.
Season opener, should be a great crowd, ought to be a dandy of a game!

Axeme,

I personally plan to leave Buffalo fans alone. My question pondered the probability of smack talk from other MAC athletic "powerhouses" (as apparently a few Akron fans fancy themselves) during Flash football discussions.
