Okay, name the champioships won by Zips teams since joining the MAC in 1992. I can think of 2, and they are only division titles - East B-ball in like 1997 and tie for East f-ball in 2000 and maybe a soccer somewhere in there. Name the others. The Zips regularly finish near the bottom of the Reese and Jacoby races.
You own us in football over the past 5-7 years. I won't use the excuse of the hose jobs that I have seen by the officials at the Rubber Bowl over the years as an excuse either. Other than that, the Zippies are also rans.
Okay, I kinda like ya even though you are a Kent fan
But here are some championships that you forgot to mention:
Men's Soccer:
1993 - MAC Champions
1995 - MAC Champions
1997 - MAC Champions
1998 - MAC Champions
1999 - MAC Champions
2000 - MAC Champions
2001 - MAC Champions, also played in NCAA tourny
2002 - MAC Champions, also played in NCAA tourny
That looks like a pretty good resume to me

Okay, I concede...only that Akron has the best men's soccer team in the MAC. Otherwise, I concede nothing. See you on 8/28! :)

Yo Radio Boy - you say Owens isdoing a good job at Akron? 2 winning seasons in 8 years and only a handful of wins against teams with winning records during that same time frame. Being Better than Jerry Faust does not define a good job. Perhaps in the warped world of Kent State Football this would be a step up but not in the real world. Even Dean Peas could coach this year's Akron team to 8 wins. The question of the next 6 months is whether or not Owens can ge out of the way of his kids and bring home a winning record. If not he will bring home a pink slip.

I love posters like "REALIST" that have no idea what goes on during college football, or any organized football.
The coaches don't play, the players play. I've said it a thousand times. For instance.....Lenny Wilkins and Jeff Van Gundy are excellent coaches, but having losing records doesn't make them bad coaches does it? I think NOT.
Players play, players make the decisions. If you've been around organized football, and/or played like I have, you'll realize that. But until then, have another
Faust didn't coach in D-1. He made the move and failed miserably with nothing to offer. Radioboy is right, with Akron's resources and facilities, Owens IS doing a great job.

Lenny Wilkins got fired. Jeff Van Gundy quit before he got fired. Lee Owens may be a good technical coach but he is not a head coach because his teams do not win. Your whole thought process is that anything that happens in a good way is all lee OWens and anything which is bad is all the fault of the facilities and resources. Bunk. The facts are clear and they reveal that Akron has two winning seasons in 8 under Owens. He recruited the players and continues to say how good they are but it is funny how the winning results never come. Even his winning seasons were that only by a nose. The practice fields off campus and budget did not hire the wrong defensive coordinator 3 times, fail to out recruit Kent State for Massillon players, or fail to keep key players eligible who would have helped the team. Akron has a bigger football budget than Bowling Green but they can win games against Big 10 opponents. Akron gets 38 tagged on them in the first quarter last year at Iowa and basically gives up when down 24. This whole thread is useless anyway as Owens and Pees will be fired after this season. August 28 will be the last Wagon Wheel game for both coaches.

Other MAC teams are getting better and better and the conference isn't a pancake conference like it once was. Winning seasons were by a nose?? Actually, the Zips were a nose away from going 9-2 or 8-3. Who cares about outrecruiting Massillon players with Kent??? I'm not seeing Kent's results....especially against the Zips. I'd like to know where you get off saying the Zips have a bigger budget than BG?!
Iowa was a damn good team last year in case you didn't watch any college football, and just looked at the stats. It's not like they're SE Mizzou St. or something. Akron did not give up against Iowa, btw.
Your comments are useless because they're un-intelligent and flaming. BTW, to say Van Gundy and Wilkins are bad coaches is ridiculous.

Thanks, Axeme.
I like your team spirit, Falconfreak, but same to you. Worship the Zips on the Akron board. Or, alternatively, the Kent fans could visit the BG board and talk about how tough the Rockets will be next year. Just let us know.

haha, ok I get your point.
I'm just saying it was a pretty big upset for a young group of Akron players to walk into the MAC Center and beat a very tough Kent State team handily...I think we were up by almost 30 at one point(?).
You're right about us, we'll leave this board...the Akron board needs to get up and running anyways.
