Amstutz gets two-year extension at Toledo

Toledo, Ohio (AP) - - Toledo coach Tom Amstutz, who has led the Rockets to two straight bowl appearances in his first two seasons, agreed to a two-year contract extension.

Amstutz, 48, is under contract at Toledo through the 2007 season under the extension announced by the school Wednesday. There were three years left in his original deal.

The former Toledo player and assistant has a 19-8 record since taking over the program for the 2001 season.

The Rockets won the Mid-American Conference championship in his first season and spent most of that year in the Top 25. A year ago, they tied for the MAC West title and went to the Motor City Bowl for a second straight season.

"We feel it is important to show Tom, his staff, his players and our fans that we have a long-term commitment to him and his program," Toledo Athletic Director Michael O'Brien said.

Good move for Toledo, say what you will, but Amstutz is a very good football coach. 04-bow

Oh, I get it! They extended his contract.
I thought they extended him, you know, so he wouldn't look so fat.

Of course axeme, it depends on whether they were extending him horizontally or vertically although I'm not sure there's a lot of room for extension in the horizontal plane.

He must have have had his players in extra good shape this year. They obviously have had to hit the weight room very hard in the off-season--so hard, in fact, there was no time for Stutz to get his workouts in.
Seriously, it looked last Friday like he had packed on another 30-50 lbs. since last season. Can't be good. Tony Packo had better cut him off!

I would "extend" Amstutz vertically, hence:

Please, sir. We'll behave. Anything but that. How about I take back all the mean things I've said about you over the years, Odd? I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact and was in no way fair comment and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future. :(

That would be counterproductive for UT. I can just see the Blade's headline now, "'Stutz now 7' 8" Tall, Signs Free-Agent Contract With Mavs."
