I don't know if the rest of the world fully understands football in the state of Florida.
Most of us at UCF grew up around these parts. We're surrounded by ACC, Big East, and SEC teams that dominate decades at a time (okay, well, maybe UF doesn't, but Spurrier acted like he did). We REALLY don't care for losing. One or two L's mean a bad season -- I grew up in a hurricane-football household, that means either a) no championship or B) UM's under NCAA sanctions again
You start pushing 70,80,90 on the rankings, my god. When theres a lot of horrible teams in front of you, what does that say about your program? We aren't used to that, will never be used to that, and we will never be content with that. Syracuse has one of the worst defenses in the country, and they shut us down. For the love of god, let us piss/moan/cry/rant for a little bit. We aren't okay with mediocrity (okay okay, screw mediocrity, we f'n suck).
And as far as talking trash... I see nothing wrong with confidence (with or without reason), and I have zero problem with shoving my foot in my mouth. This is what we do in FL growing up. In HS, you were either a UM, UF, or FSU. You talked trash constantly simply because of the hyper-competitive nature of our sports. It's become second nature to us.
That being said I promise that when the better team wins, you'll hear me congratulate them (ahem). Undertand that by talking ****** to each other constantly, when another football program comes by, we get to take a break and pass it on to them. Some friends of mine went to blacksburg (a fairly hostile environment) a few weeks back, and said the biggest ******** there were other UCF fans. It's in our blood. Get over it.
I'm *SO* glad to see people finally jumping on the anti-Coach K bandwagon. (A coach/players shouldn't be doing the trash talking, by the way.. Leave that to the fans.) Too bad UCF just offered him a 5 year extension? Our only hope is that he goes off to coach BC next year.
Just my two (three) cents worth.
