The college football season is nearing its end. The MAC East has already been clinched by Miami, making them the first school outside of Marshall to ever win the MAC East.
The MAC West is still very much up for grabs though with 4 schools still in contention.
1.Bowling Green, One MAC loss, no divisional. Bowling Green has 3 moderately difficult games to go against Toledo, Kent, and BallSt. Win all three and BG is MAC West champion because of no divisional losses. If BG loses once, they'll have 2 overall MAC losses placing them potentially behind NIU if the Huskies win out. Bottom line: BG needs to stay focused if they want to play in the MAC Championship game.
2,Northern Ill, One MAC loss, one divisional. Northern Ill has only 2 MAC games left, one fairly challenging at Toledo and another which is a blow off game vs. Eastern Michigan. Everyone is counting NIU out after the loss to BG, but the Dogs proved resiliant against Buffalo. If NIU wins their next two games, and BG drops a game, the Dogs are West Champs. Even if NIU doesn't win the division, they are still only one of two teams with only one loss (Miami being the other) and would go bowling over a 3 loss BG.
3.Toledo, One MAC loss, one divisional. Toledo has a tough finish to the season with both NIU and BG, to go along with a half-way decent WMU squad in its final 3 games. Toledo must beat NIU this Saturday to stay alive. Otherwise, the two divisional losses plus tie-breaker would put them behind NIU, even if the Huskies lost to EMU.
4.BallSt, Two MAC losses, one divisional. Ball St plays yet against BG and at EMU. All the conditions would have to be right for the Cards to pull out the division. 1) Ball St would have to win out finishing with only 2 MAC losses. 2) NIU would have to lose to both Toledo and EMU because they've already beaten Ball St. 3) Toledo would have to beat NIU, and lose to either BG or WMU. Hoke has taken the Cards a long way this season, but I just don't think they'll have the mental stamina to beat BG, and the luck of NIU losing out.
