All Great points!!! I will be there on thursday for my first game of the year and i am bringing about 10 other non(yet soon to be converted) Kent ST Football fans, just doing my part in the attendance challenge!
Go Flashes Beat the Zits!!!!!
Prediction: Cribbs and Frye do battle again, but the improved Kent ST. secondary picks Frye 3 times one for a TD, and the Zips unimproved D cant stop Cribbs on the ground, KSU wins 42-28.

I had an opportunity to look at the tape delay of the game last night. I agree with your points FlashFan. Clearly a game we could have won. We probably could have survivied the penalties and the fumbles, but special teams play was just too much. While I am disappointed, the Flashes fought the entire game and a few plays on special teams made the difference.
Cribbs looked much better on his passes, although he paid the price when Rutgers made a point of knocking him down on almost every pass play. He really took a beating yesterday, even in the midst of all that he never backed off once. The receiver play was spectacular, Cribbs and Dolwery have a special connection. Also Pruden is developing into a nice player. Next year, Smith to Pruden is going to be the order of the day.
The offensive line performance was disapointing. Cribbs was sacked eight times. The disappearance of the running game can also be attributed to the O line play. It looked like Rutgers was a lot faster, knifing in defensively, disrupting the backfield. I thought that Alston, being a Jersey boy, might be up for a big game. It seemed like everytime his number was called that the Rutger's D was on him. I did like McClaude's TD run. He seems to hit the holes hard. I am a little perplexed by the O line play. By rights, we should be getting stronger every week with the return of Andrews and Newton. Newton had a nice catch yesterday and the added bulk is welcome, but we just can't seem to get a significant running game other than Cribbs. Maybe it just a matter of getting Alston on track but we have got to find a way control the ball and keep the D rested
On the defensive side of things they generally played well. The secondary is really much better, Elam is getting stronger each week and had 6 stops. Young also came to play too. It was encouraging to see Muir was the second leading tackler with 8. He and Sessler were fired up and did a good job on the run yesterday. The problem was a lack of pressure on the Rutgers QB. No sacks and only 7 hurries. We have to get more pressure on the QB next week.
The special teams started off Ok and then went in the tank. Our long snapper is having problems. Low snaps, he had the same problem at Iowa. In his defense, on the one punt block that put Rutgers up 16, Brazen just dropped the snap. On other two punts that led to scores there were low snaps. I guess long snapping is kind ot an art form, but you can bet there is going to be a lot of practice on them this week.
I think the Flashes know how close they came to realizing their goal. I sense that Coach Martin is not going to let them get down. Hopefully, next week we will see all the pieces come together. It would be great to see a really strong, decisive game against the Zips.

Seems to be varying accounts in papers of the fourth-down play. Pruden was wide open at the back of the end zone. But Cribbs was throwing from outside the 20 and had at least 15 guys between he and Pruden. It would have taken a great play from both players. Cribbs didn't "miss" him, and Pruden didn't "drop" it.
Offensive line was bad. Disappointing because they have a lot of experience. Andrews does not look completely recovered. Lack of line play hurt several areas. It limited the amount of medium-range passing. It gave no help to Alston, and it took away the option.
They also need to hold on to the ball. Obviously way too many fumbles. If it's any consolation for the defense, the corners apparently played well in coverage. Most of Rutgers completions were dumpoffs. Now if they could cover the tight end...
Freshman long snapper, but the coaches must have faith in him.
Fido compared this game to UConn from last year earlier in the week, and I think it still applies. They can play and beat these teams but until they make the plays to do it, nobody will notice.

I hope we beat Akron, its really the only game that matters! I know its a quick turn around, but I have to believe that this team is foaming at the mouth to play a MAC team, especially the zits! Go Flashes

I watched the game last night as well, Pruden was wide open and Cribbs could have hit him with the pass but he placed it way too high. Also, Cribbs was sacked quite a few times throughout the game, but a few times he tried to scramble when he shouldn't have and tried to stay in the pocket when he should have ran it, including on that 4th down play on that drive. The pick that ended their final drive was also thrown into a pocket of 3 Rutgers defenders, maybe he could have gone elsewhere with it. Rutgers basically got a 16-0 lead compliments of the punting miscues, trying to get a non-conference road win is hard enough without getting behind 16-0. I give the team credit for hanging in there, but it had to be very disappointing as taking that next step to being competitive in the MAC shouldn't include these "morale victories" in games that should be Ws. Should be a great game with the Zips, wish I could make it.
