The Bobcats have fallen back to earth this week with road loses to St. Francis(pa) and American U. This looks like major problem. Ohio has not won a road game in the post Brandon Hunter Era. Only a neutral court win last year over Coppin State was the cats only win away from the Convo. This team had better get it together quick. The Bobcats have some tough road games against the MAC to start the new year.

I was at that game, and I was really impressed with American. They had great student support and their coach was a former ACC head coach who made trips the elite 8 and sweet 16.

I did like the way the Cats responded down 16 and battling back to just 2 down. They ran into a better team that day with a very crisp offense. Our only signs of life came when American was tired out on the court.

The Duquesne game is a must win. We can't afford to take this team lightly. The Dukes are 2-7, but they beat us last year. I'm heading to south Florida Friday. I'll be down there when the cats play in the FIU invitational. Binghamton is the first game and FIU the host school gets Colgate. FIU beat Florida State, so the RPI rankings from Ohio's non-conf schedule will be decent. If Bobcats can win against Duquesne and win down south, then the non-conf season would be a success. Starting the MAC strong could really boost the Bobcats. They have 5 of seven on the road with home games against Kent and Marshall. A 1-6 start is possible; however, if Bobcats can go 3-4 in the first seven games, then they will have seven of 11 in the Convo. The home games in final 11 are against some tough teams, so this could get ugly if cats fail to win on the road early.

Bobcats are 0-2 in the Mac 5-5 overall. Marshall is next up at home. Green had 24 tonight. And Troutman had 18. Leon Williams had another double double. Troutman is starting to get his game back. He needs to cut down on the 3's. Green and Halbert are the 3pts guys. Fears and Troutman are taking too many threes. Williams needs more shots inside.

I feel like we have the talent to compete in conference play just not the chemistry at this point in the season. Hopefully, once we go back home for a couple games and pick up some confidence against the MAC this squad can start playing well on the road.

Marshall at home couldn't of come at a better time....

I was pleased by the way this team has fought back when down big. This month is tough on the Bobcats; however, Buffalo showed last year that a young team can get hot after a tough start. Winning just a couple road games could help Ohio get a good seed this year. The more difficult games against the west division are in the convo. If Bobcats can survive January, they should be alright.

I would like to see O'shea put an experienced defensive player in the lineup and move one of the young offensive oriented players to the bench, maybe Troutman. Its too much offense by committee we need a couple of stars to get the most touches.

A lot of people say Bridgewater has good athleticism. If he could pick up more minutes he could bring that athleticism on the defensive end of the court. Then bring Troutman and Fears off the bench to mix things up.

Bridgewater played a lot when he first came to OU, but has seen lots of pine since. Bobcats are loaded at SG and SF with Green, Troutman and Halbert. O'Shea has recruited well at Bridgewater's position. A team needs role players and an injury could open up more time for Bridgewater. The Troutman does get to foul line a lot. I like that. Bobcats are much deeper than the Hunter, Esterkamp, and Sonny Johnson team of two years ago. That team was only six deep. This team is 8 or nine deep. That will help as the younger players hit the wall in the second half of the year. The turnovers are getting fewer each game. The poor shooting and turnovers have killed the Cats the past few years. Having a good point guard and power post player helps. Beating Marshall today should help this young team. Marshall beat Cats up last year.

One position where the OU squads under TOS has really lacked the last couple of years is a nice shot blocker at the center spot. Having Mychal Green lead our team in blocks at the shooting guard position is not what we need.

We do seem to have more depth than in seasons past, and we might be able to win as many games as that last Hunter/Esterkamp team but I'd really like to see a player or two emerge as a go to option. Right now our top scorer is averaging 14 and that is Green. In the Hunter/Esterkamp days, Hunter would be good for 20, and Esterkamp 15 a game. Before BHunt it was Stonebrook for 19 and Adell for 16. OU under Larry Hunter always had a nice 1-2 offensive combination that could put games away. TOS hasn't developed that with his squad at this point.
