According to the Plain Dealer, Akron will host Akron this year in football. This was supposed to be a "Patriot Game" at Cleveland Browns Stadium, which fell through. The game will be played at the Rubber Bowl. Akron and Army also signed a 1 & 1 series over the next few years so in essence, Akron will host Army twice in a three game series. The Zips will also face Kentucky in 2005. They signed a 2 for 1 agreement with the Wilcats over the next few years.

Congrats to the Zips for getting some nice home games and winnable non-conference games.

Akron is really starting to turn the corner on support and now scheduling. They proved this year when they needed a big crowd they could put one in the Rubber Bowl. I watched the entire Akron-Marshall game and contrary to what some people believe on here they did have 29,000 fans in the stadium for a while during the game.

Since when is the spring game newsworthy? Doesn't everyone have one?

Good for Akron! JD Burkhart has something happening there. IF the Zips can successfully replace Frye, they could be something special.

I was at the Zips/Herd game and it was every bit of 29,000 until 5 min left in the 3rd.

FYI: We don't play Kentucky until 2008. It is a 2-for-1 deal.

The rumor as to why the Patriot Game fell through is: The Zips didn't want to give up their home field advantage.

The Patriot game would probably not have drawn more than 30k, and the Rubber Bowl seats that anyhow. It just didn't make sense for the Zips...at least not at this time.

Coming to Akron will be great for Army. Those future officers need training in Baghdad-like communities.

Spam Light!?! That makes about as much sense as Caffeine-Free Jolt Cola.

The only way I've eaten Spam is fried-up while camping. Doesn't taste too bad, but what food doesn't taste good when you're outdoors?
