Bobcats have lost just once to Kent State all time in the convo. Kent State's elite 8 team is the one that got it done. Ohio's program isn't near what it was during most of that run and Kent should be favored by five. Bobcats are 5-0 at home and 1-6 on the road this year. Kent is the best team so far that Ohio has played. This is the season for Ohio on Saturday. A loss would put them 1-4 and way behind the East leaders. Bobcats have the best recruiting class this year in the MAC. All Three recruits are starting (Fears pg, Green sg, and Williams c). With two freshman and a soph starting Ohio has struggled on the road losing at Ball State by one and at NIU by 3. Kent State will be a good test to see where this young team stacks up against the MAC elite. Next year, Ohio should be one of the best teams in the MAC. They will have four starters returning plus their best shooter(sixthman) Jeff Halbert and a Boston College transfer Johnnie Jackson f to fill the power forward slot. Ohio lacks the confidence that teams like Kent and Miami have. Kent has lost 2 in a row on the road to Ball Sate and Western. Three is row could put some doubt into Kent State's lofty Rpi rankings.

Uh, better check your records.
We've won twice there in the last six seasons. In additon to Huffman's dagger 3 in '02, we won there in Huffman's freshman season in '99. Quote:Feb. 20 at Ohio
Athens, Ohio
Junior Nate Meers shot 7-9 from behind the three-point arc to score 21 points and lead the Golden Flashes to an 86-77 victory on the road at Ohio. Meers' outside shooting helped open up the middle for center John Whorton, who bounced back from a quiet first half to score 20 points and pull down six rebounds for the Golden Flashes. Trailing 42-30 at halftime, Kent outscored the Bobcats 56-35 in the second stanza to earn the win after wearing down the legs of Ohio with constant substitutions throughout the game. In fact, the Kent bench outscored Ohio's 50-0 during the contest thanks to big scoring efforts from Meers and freshman Trevor Huffman (13 points). The Flashes held Ohio to just 7-24 shooting in the second half (.292) and forced the Bobcats into 14 turnovers.
I didn't check before '99, but I'd be willing to bet there were other wins in Athens, too, over the 30+ years the Convo has been open. Where did you get your numbers?

Saturdays game i believe will be the turning point of our season.
A win puts at 4-2 in the MAC and proves to our team that they can win on the road in the MAC. 2 straight MAC home games follow and a 6-2 record keeps us on track for a MAC East championship.
A loss, against a very average but improving, OU team, and i fear that we will muddle around .500 for the MAC season. Keep in mind outside of Marshall, OU is the weakest team in the East and we still have to visit everywhere else in the East. A loss here and i think things could turn ugly.
I don't see the toughness in this team that i did in the last 6 years and to me youth isn't an excuse. The core of this team has played in so many big games over the last 2-3 years. Something's missing and I can't pinpoint it. Maybe i'm just spoiled from the past 6 years.

ksu315,
I am spoiled also. I agree with you that something is missing. We are used to teams where the players are very much on the same page. Huffman and Mitch had eyes in the back of their head for each other. In fairness to Haynes, no one seems to be his twin. There is something wrong but I do not know what it is either.

Were a bit young yet:
I think with Huffman, Mithchell and Shaw they all sort of came in at the same time and could develope together;
and they became a crack unit.
Haynes is right there in talent but has had to adapt with all the new faces each year. I think we easily have the talent
but it may take some lessons like Western gave us Wednesday night for this team to get it together. A little lack
of consistancy now but I think they'll get it going. I mean; I could hear over the radio the shouts from Western's
fans of "OVERRATED!!!" If I was a player I don't think I would want to have to hear that anytime again this
season!
Those shouts of "OVERRATED" should be enough to get those competitive jucies going again. :chair:

Half
Unless the Flashes play a lot better in the 2nd half, it appears we will have yet another loss. I realize now I over estimated this team and believe Kent will probably have several more losses by the end of the season.
Hopefully the Flashes will finally start getting it together.

Three more games the next week, all at home. Three wins is the only thing to cure our ills. What a week from hell.
One day off, then IPFW. One day off then Buffalo. Two days off, then Marshall. If we can survive this week and hold our court, then we have a week off to regroup and prepare to win a road game at Toledo.
Awfully early in the year for such a critical stretch. It's not the end of the world to lose a couple road games: WMU is the best team in the league right now, and we have struggled big time in Athens the last three trips, but what is disturbing is the way we are playing: sloppy, slow, lazy, and nobody shooting well.

Bobcats now 47-6 alltime in Athens against Kent State and 83-32 overall against Kent State. The east up for graps this year. Kent at 3-3 won't run away in first half of MAC season this year. They can't have a second half slump and win the east. Kent State still has tough road games at Buffalo, at Toledo and at Miami which are probably losses. Kent State would need to sweep Marshall, Akron and win at CMU and win the other home against Ohio, NIU, and BGSU to finish 12-6 in the Mac. 11-7 record might not be enough to win the division:however, Any team that wins 1-2 road games might win it this year. The east is still anybodys but Marshall's so far. Miami/Buffalo is a big game tonite in the east.

That might have been the worst performance I have seen by a Kent St. team in a few years. We struggled with the full court press the entire game, and DeAndre Haynes was really out of his game. Cutley and Haynes seemed to be arguing with each other the whole 2nd half, and the team couldn't put together any kind of run. Christian needs to have this team run layup and foul shot drills tomorrow, we missed several layups and put backs. Hopefully we can refocus and get back on track at the MACC.

Pretty TERRIBLE day for me considering my Jets lose in a heartbreaker and Kent State seems like they played an awful game. Great. Just great.
