01/24/2005
KENT, Ohio — Senior guard Jason Edwin (Road Town, British Virgin Islands/Southeastern [Iowa] C.C.) of the Kent State University men’s basketball team, was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week the conference office announced today.
Edwin led Kent State to a 3-0 record last week, averaging 16.0 points and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting .643 (9-of-14) from three-point range. The three wins, all coming at home at the M.A.C. Center, came on the heels of a two-game losing skid.
In a key 85-80 overtime victory against Buffalo, Edwin led KSU with 18 points and added five rebounds and three steals in a career-high 43 minutes. He hit a clutch three-pointer at the start of overtime to spur Kent State to the win.
Edwin followed that with 17 points in a 75-66 win against Marshall. In that contest, he connected on a perfect 4-of-4 three-pointers, including a triple from the left corner that pushed KSU to its final margin of victory, nine points. In the week’s opening win against IPFW, he had 13 points, four rebounds and five assists.
The MAC East Player of the Week honor is the second for Edwin in his career, the first coming last season following KSU’s 70-55 win against Creighton.
The Golden Flashes are next in action when they play at the University of Toledo, Saturday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. The game is the MAC Men’s Basketball TV Game of the Week.
Well deserved.

Edwin stepped it up; but we still have not been able to generate any kind of team chemistry or leadership
in the MAC on the road. If we don't at Toledo this Saturday we'll be looking up at the other teams.
Again for one half of the Marshall game we looked like "World Beaters" , then we could not hit a shot to save our lives
in the second half with the exception of Edwin's big 3 pointer near the end.
What's up with Haynes? He looked like he didn't even want to be out there against Marshall.

Edwin is emerging as the go to guy we need, and not a minute too soon.
Don't worry about Haynes. He has a slump every year. It's usually the last week of February. He'll be fine.
