My vote is for Toledo.
1) This is the first MAC opponent at home.
2) The weather should be better for this game. Basically...warmer.
3) Opponent is in Ohio. I expect some Toledo fans to travel. I know Miami (Ohio) is also in Ohio but the game is in October.

I agree with Toledo as the potential highest attendence. It should still be warm, the Temple students will just be hitting their party stride, and I know a bunch of Rocket fans will make the trek for the weekend.
What Temple needs to sell is the entire package of a weekend in Philly. The football game should be just one of the pieces of an entire visit to Philly. The town has a multitude of things to see and do. The fall is a great time to visit Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Rittenhouse Square, the Art Museum, Penns Landing, Reading Terminal Market, the Italian market, South Street, and nearby Valley Forge, Chads Ford, New Hope, King of Prussia, Atlantic City, Lancaster County, etc, etc.

I agree.
And since the Delaware Valley Skipping Marathon and Interpretive Dance Festival is scheduled to be held in Rittenhouse Square 9/23 through 9/25, I would have to go with the Western Michigan game as the biggest draw.

For those MAC fans who have never been to Philly, a few landmarks I'd recommend are (in no particular order):
1) USS New Jersey - docked across the Delaware River as a museum, it is one of the Big 4 battleships from WWII, and is the most decorated battleship in US naval history. Impressive ship to say the least....
2) USS Olympia - Admiral Dewey's flagship at the Battle of Manila Bay in the Spanish American War. It was also granted the honor of transporting the unknown soldier from France to Washington following WWI. It is one of the oldest steel warships still afloat and is a great museum to look into a time long past. It is docked on the Philly side of the Delaware River.
3) Philadelphia City Hall - The largest all-masonry building in the world, impessive site to say the least.
4) Philadelphia Museum of Art - Great world-class art museum.
5) Independence Hall and surrounding area - See where the nation started and our forefathers wrote and enacted our Declaration of Independence and constitution. You can't find more american history anywhere in the US outside this old city part of Philadelphia.
There are tons of more places including great restaurants of all types and cool sites to see......

As a MAC grad who has spent the last 15 years in SE Pennsylvania, let me add that UDFan is spot on. Even without a football game, this is an awesome place to visit.

Toledo. Bruce Almighty's family is from Pittsburgh and they will bring a large contingent. The Jambulance will be making its first official roadtrip.

Toledo has a lot of alumni in the Philly area too. Back in 2001 there were almost as many Rocket fans as Temple fans at the UT/TU game.

I don't know, there was an awfully high percentage of orange in the stands last fall against BG ... of course, fans were outnumbered 2 to 1 by empty seats ...

Not really. Attendance was announced at just over 20K, but there weren't that many there. The game was at Franklin Field. My estimation would be about 6K of Rocket fans and about 8-9K of Temple fans for no more than 15K butts in the seats.
I am glad you guys don't play there anymore as that place was very old and crappy. People talk about the restrooms on the visiting side at the Glass Bowl, but these restrooms looked like they were 200 years old. It was basically something that looked like a small pond and you walked up and did what you had to do into the pond. There were no dividers or anything. It also stunk like an outhouse. I walked into the bathroom and just walked back out and held it until I could find a tree.

I'm still going to disagree with you, unless you brought 6K early hip-hop fans. Didn't RUN-DMC put on an abbreviated halftime show? I recall sitting close to the end zone on Temple's side because our side was so crowded.
Some might say FF has character. I like its history, (it was the stadium Bruce Willis' character in Unbreakable secured too) but I'll most certainly agree the Linc is light years better. Hopefully you'll be coming to the game to enjoy...

My wife, who earned her PhD at Temple, said "How come there are more Bowling Green fans here than Temple fans?"
Hence, I must say ...

Run DMC did play at the game, but I am not lying about the attendance. There probably was about 1-2K of Temple students that Run DMC performed to, in the one corner of the endzone. Everybody else, including the Temple fans at the 50 yard line on the home side, were too far away to really soak up any of the brief concert.
The Temple side was not crowded though. Perhaps you sat close to the endzone in order to watch the concert.
Franklin Field has a seating capacity of just over 52K. Even if 20K were there the stadium would have been more than half empty. No way one side of the stadium was too crowded.

Franklin Field is a cool stadium from afar in terms of its history, design, etc., but I agree that many of its amenities are decrepit compared to more modern stadiums. Hopefully UPenn will follow the lead of fellow Ivy League member Yale and fix up the old place. The really historic and cool Yale Bowl is being restored this year, and it needed it given it was one of the most run down (and most historic) venues in college football......

Although Franklin Field is quaint, the facilities are horrible. one of the men's bathrooms is essentially an open running sewer. You pee against a wall, which runs down to a trough and goes God knows where. Pathetic.
I was in attendence at Franklin Field the last time Toledo played there. Temple had about 15-17K fans, Toledo maybe 2-3,000 tops. Franklin Field is a big place, and it is easy to see how 20,000 fans makes the place seem empty.
The facilities at the Linc are state of the art. Franklin Field is 19th century.

My thoughts at the BG game:
"Man, for such a good team they (BG) don't travel well;" "This weather is awful;" "I hope they don't score 40 in the first half. Damn they just scored 40 in the first half."
But, how can I possible quibble with the hard and fast proof supplied by your wife's opinion? I must be living on a different planet also.

Well, a friend who is attending Temple seemed to agree, too, but there is no use in quibbling. Bottom line, there weren't many people in the seats (no where near the announced figure), but there were plenty of points on the board.

Let's see how many Temple brings to BG this fall.

I would rather be kicked in the junk five times over by a pair of Timberlands than go to Bowling Green.
