I wish they would update more. I will be over by there tomorrow. I might take my camera and try to get a few pics.

Well, I went by the stadium, and not much to report.. They seemed to lay more turf beyond the lines of the field. So far, they still have the old turf down in the corners. It seems like they have more turf, so hopefully they will cover those areas. That's about it. Nothing new painted on the field yet.

Quote:I think one of the biggest mistakes the University ever made was putting Dix so far off campus

If I remember correctly from my days on the student maintenance crew, I saw an old master plan map with the "new" location of Dix stadium was to be the center, or close to center, of campus. Almost like OSU. KSU does or did own all that land in Rootstown for a mile or two after Dix stadium. Build a University around a premier stadium. Kent State didn’t grow as big as quick as thought and eventually they moved most of the auxiliary operations of the university between small group and the stadium ending that plan, the rest is kinda history.

It's looking nicer. I like the fact that they painted the press box areas, and clearly labeled the section numbers. I'm still hoping for clear row letters and seat numbers this year..

May just be an illusion, but it looks like they've painted everything. No more big black spots on the stands.

Looks pretty good.....I was in the area last week....lots of sand and "rubber" still to be spread in the new turf. Anybody hear anything about what logos will go on the 50? The endzones? I imagine [Image: icon24.gif] on the 50, but not sure about the endzones?

Not sure about the logos yet. I agree with our logo on the 50, but not sure about endzones. MAC will probably be on the 25's. Maybe Kent State in one endzone, then Flashes in the other...

Apparently, Dix has been completely "steamed clean", painted and landscaping added, in addition to new turf. That's why those black spots in the stands are gone.

The team practiced on the new turf for the first time last Monday.

More serious architectural renovations planned for Dix next year, if they can raise the dough. One would think a good year would help the effort immensely.

Are there any plans on the drawing board? If they released the plans, fundraising may be easier!! Good to hear none the less!! 04-rock

I understand the endzones are going to have the diagonal lines like Pittsburgh and ND (and Iowa last year). They were looking at checkerboard like Tenn but, it was going to cost $35,000. The new turf makes Akrons look like crap.

They will be wearing gold circles with MD on their helmets next to the flag for Mike Drake.

No word about names on the jerseys.

I had a feeling they were going to do that to the endzones. When Wisconsin installed their new field turf a couple years ago, the first year they had the slashes in the endzones and that was it. The next year however, they got the W on the 50 as well as the endzones painted red.

Hopefully they will get the funding to paint the rest of the endzones next season.

Don't know, Flash.

Sense the fundraising is seriously underway now.

New pictures on the website .... no logos or paint on the field (yet?) but other than that everything looks done. I can't get over what a huge difference the field and paint for the stadium make in these pictures. I'm excited to see it in person.

I went into Dix on Sunday and checked things out. I didn't really see any sort of landscaping and it looked exactly the way it did the last time the website updated the photo's. I noticed some sort of over pass is being built over SR 261 about a quarter of mile from the Summit intersection. I don't know what it's for but I hope it will make access to Dix easier.

I remember seeing a cool end zone pattern from the 70's I think that had alternating gold and blue dimounds with K S U being the middle three diamounds. I think it'd be fairly unique and look really cool to put that in the endzone.

From the new pics, Dix looks better than I've ever seen it!!!! Now just needs some logos on the field to be complete. If Flash Fan is correct, any structural changes for 2006 will make this an attractive stadium. Hope the bathrooms are included in the rennovation. Heck, I'd might pitch in a few bucks for a hot water heater...

For the record, I don't know exactly what the structural changes are or the extent being considered...think there is something about an entrance...but can't be certain as to details. But more improvements are in the goals for Dix...that is for certain.

They are building a bike bridge which is part of the Portage Hike/Bike trail to connect Kent to Ravenna. A nice addition to campus ... there has never been a good way to get from campus to the stadium without a car.
