Toledo fans are doing BG fans a favor by doing their logical work for them.
They have constructed an argument concluding that BG's defense will be much improved this year.
Here's how the argument goes.
1st premise: A mass of Toledo fans are claiming that the Rockets' defense will be much improved this year because they have a new defensive coordinator.
2nd premise: Bowling Green also has a new defensive coordinator.
Conclusion: Toledo fans are also claiming that Bowling Green's defense will be much improved this year.
For those who want to get picky, both the premises and the logic of this argument may be suspect.
But according to the reasoning of Toledo fans, the conclusion appears to be rock solid.
Thank you Rocket fans for believing in BG!!

Silly little post. You are leaving out a key to the equation: YOU didn't start from LOU WEST.

SFF, your ability to think is very bad.
First off we just don't have a new DC.......we have a guy that has improved the defense in his first year of every place he has gone. Why should it be different at Toledo? I mean we are talking EMU and LaTech as two of the defenses he improved.
Second, Toledo returns all but 3 starters on defense. Everyone else on the defensive 2-deep roster from last season returns and many of them were freshmen or first year playing sophomores last year and will definitely have some experience which tends to make players better. BG is not in the same case.
That said, it is possible for BG's defense to be better this year. After all when you look at scoring defense there really wasn't much of a difference between UT and BG last year, if you take out the two 63 point games to start the season Toledo gave up 25.2ppg and BG gave up 23.5ppg.
Finally, who really cares?

How long before Rocket fans moan and groan, crying:
"The Rose has lost its bloom!"
Indeed, this might be a headline we'll read late this season in The Blade.
It might also be heard reverberating throughout the Doyt in the 4th Quarter, maybe even the 3rd Quarter.

No, here's how the arguement goes:
1. Toledo overinflates game balls, because everyone knows that overinflating balls wins key games.
2. BG plans to overinflate their game balls.
Conclusion: BG still loses key games because Omar can't handle overinflated balls, while Toledo wins because Bruce can.
Moral of the story: What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander.

Question - how much credit should Tim Rose get if you are returning 19 of 22 from your defensive two deep, when the main excuse for last year was youth?

I don't know. I just know his track record everywhere he has gone. I really only care about our defense being improved and winning games. Whether it is because of this guy or these players doesn't matter if we do improve and win.

How long before Brandon leaves BG? How long before BG goes into another funk of 2-3 win seasons?
You can't answer those questions just like I can't answer your question about Rose.
I do know this though........Rose has been very successful as a Defensive Coordinator everywhere he has gone. His problems that Miami fans bring up were as a Head Coach and Toledo doesn't want him to be the HC. We want him to be the DC, which is what he is good at and has proved himself over many years.

A reply to Karl
We now move from logic to psychology.
The family member who has left is usually blamed for the problems it has suffered. Once he has gone, we believe that life will be better.

One other note. I have seen our defense play in practice and scrimmages. The are playing with an intensity that has not been witnessed at practices, scrimmages, or games since Amstutz was the DC. And having the DB's actually play at the line of scrimmage instead of 15 yards off the receiver is enough to make an improvement as well.

Only one problem with your ARGUEMENT
Each team brings their own balls to away games to use so O was complaining about his own teams footballs.
Finally...let it go...it was a silly excuse said in the immediate aftermath of a bitter loss to your rival probably just because a 20 year old kid was not ready to give credit to his opponent yet. :snore:

I don't know how old Brandon is but he was immature enough to not give credit to Toledo as well. He said that it wasn't Toledo, it was our own team and the QB missing on several passes in the 2nd half.

ECU did not have the players on defense to compete and there is only so much you can do. They had a few on offense, but they graduated at that point and they have stunk on offense and defense ever since. If you think ECU's problems were because of Rose than you can think that way and watch our defense change your mind throughout the season.
Of course you fail to mention that the next highest point total they gave up was 44 at Syracuse and the next after that was in the 30's against a strong Louisville team. Bad games do happen sometime.

Why can't Miami fans bring up the Dark Ages? He was our DC, and our HC(I believe.) After he took Miami to the 1986 MAC Championship, Miami fell apart. It was bad, well, worse than bad. It was un-Miami. But, as was said in the Toledo board, Miami's defence never completely lacked during that time.

When Miami fell apart, Rose was the HC at Miami. During his time as DC at Miami they had seasons were they only gave up 11ppg and every year their statistics got better until he was promoted to HC. Toledo has no plans to promote him to HC.
