RE: " Yeah, I see A LOT of Zero State gear in airports (well Vegas anyway. hmmm) Gotta admit, I'd like to see a fraction of those sales go to BGSU. "
But I've gotta tell you, last January I went to Vegas and wore a UT t-shirt (long sleeve), I was still in the Airport waiting for my "consistantly-late-and-i'll-never-be-on-time brother-in-law

UT Astrophysics Wrote:B) The MAC reminds me a lot of those Korean car companies they often don’t get a lot of respect but they’re building a pretty good car. The Big Ten seems to be a lot like General Motors... too stupid to keep up with the times
Nice metaphor...analogy... simile??
English majors/teachers, help a guy out.
Anyway, I like the viewpoint.

I met a guy from Toronto back in May (that I now know personally) who noticed my UT clothing. He talked to me a little bit about UT and he knew that they beat Miami in the MAC championship game and explained why he thought that was a good game. I was a little surprised that being from Toronto, he watched the game and was familiar with the Rockets.
I agree with what Astrophysics is saying to an extent. This reminds me of our boy TJRocket's perspective on the issue. He went to the Miami/Michigan game with me and a couple of my friends last season. One of my friends is an OSU fan (UT grad) and we began talking about Rocket football. My arrogant OSU fan friend made some comment and TJ asked him if he's ever been to an OSU game. The guy replied with a "no" and TJ came back with "sounds like an OSU fan to me." Nothing frosts his nuggets more than that comment, which I use against him in ideal situations. Another perspective: TJ graduated from a different school than UT. He always gets asked if he graduated from UT, which apparently is annoying because nobody ever asks OSU or Michigan fans if they matriculated there. Anyway, sorry to steal your stories there TJ but I doubt that you would have posted them otherwise.
To add on this and Astrophysics's post, I think we get this attention because MAC football is such a niche product. Like everyone here, I'd like to see my favorite program grow but not to the level of an OSU or Michigan (maybe to a Big East level or similar). In some senses, I think that we have it good where we're at.
BTW, go Redhawks!

This excert is from The Insiders , citing a site review of OSU opponents. It's a long review, but I thought the RedHawks would like this part:
Quote:Jerry Rudzinski Says: I think Ohio State is going to have its hands full, completely full, with this season opener. But I also think they’ll win the game. If you look at that program, Terry Hoeppner really built that program up. It actually started with Randy Walker before him, when they really started building that thing up.
It wasn’t really like they were doing it with scraps and leftovers, either. They had guys who maybe, if they had waited a while longer, would have gotten scholarship offers from some Big Ten schools. Some of them like Roethlisberger did have offers like that and chose Miami instead. These players were saying, `I can’t wait. I can go in and get some playing time at Miami.’ They had a nice blend there where many of their front line guys could have been players at some Big Ten schools.
Ohio State needs to take this game very seriously or they could suffer that first loss in the Horseshoe to an MAC opponent. They have to be careful that doesn’t happen. Miami believes they can win this game, and that is frightening. There are some teams you play where they say, `If the ball bounces our way, we could come out on top.’
Miami is saying, `No, even if the ball doesn’t bounce our way, we can go into the ‘Shoe and beat the Buckeyes.’ When a team comes in with that mind-set, you better be ready to play some football.
It’s a big deal to Coach Montgomery, I’m sure, and he will control the things he can control. He can’t control Ted Ginn Jr.’s speed, but he can control a game plan and have his team ready and fresh. This quarterback, Josh Betts, is a good one and they have a good system. He has a good receiver in Ryne Robinson.
Don’t expect Miami to just go three-and-out and for OSU to score quickly every time. But over the course of the game, OSU should create enough breaks and come out on top.
I think Ohio State will put off the Texas film – at least for the players – until after they play this game. There may be some cases, like if they were playing a Kent State, where they’d say, `Let’s sneak in some Texas tape.’ They won’t be doing that here. The best thing they can do to prepare for Texas is to prepare and play a good game against Miami.

You'd be surprised about those Canadien people. Exactly why I think the Toronto Bowl is a good idea and attendance would be better than people think. Football is probably the #3 sport in Canada, behind hockey and curling! Then you factor in that schools in the MAC, particularly Toledo, tend to have at least one or two Canadiens on their team and those guys up north get interested in watching our games.

1894 - Legendary Coach John Heisman led Akron (Buchtel) to a 12-6 win over OSU @ the state fairgrounds in Cowlumbus. Yeah, It's a while back, but never say never!
