FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Track and Field News released their annual National Relay Rankings, as Arkansas took second place. The Razorbacks earned 33 points with top finishes in the 4xmile relay and the distance medley relay. They also earned points with a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay and a seventh-place finish in the sprint medley relay.
“Anytime you finish second in a national poll it’s an achievement,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “Although it’s not where we’re used to finishing, with a young team like we had this past year it’s pretty darn good.”
The 4xmile relay team of junior Daniel Lincoln, sophomore Alistair Cragg and Chris Mulvaney and freshman Michael Taylor captured the title with a time of 16:09.84 at the Penn Relays. Lincoln, Cragg, Mulvaney and sophomore Robbie Stevens represented the Hogs in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays and finished with a winning time of 9:31.21.
Tennessee claimed the top honor with 40 points as they were ranked first in three events (4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relays and the shuttle hurdle relay) and scored in two others (4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relays). South Carolina finished in a close third place behind Arkansas with 31 points. Florida was listed in fourth place with 24 points, while LSU (18) and Mississippi State (17) rounded out the SEC representation in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
