NIU fan here. I'm planning to come to Akron for the NIU/Akron game on 9/24. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel near the Rubber Bowl? Thanks.

I know this is bad but I can't think of any hotels near the RB off the top of my head.

You should post your question on zipsnation.org - you'll get many more suggestions. You'll have a great time in Akron so come on over and welcome.

Big Bear is correct. Actually, there are no (decent) hotels within a short distance of the Rubber Bowl. The one or two that are reasonably close would be fine for Marshall visitors (oh, I forgot, they won't be back), but are of the no-tell motel variety.

Check south of Akron on 77 South near Belden Village (Jackson Twp) or Portage Street (about 7-10 minutes south of Akron), or my personal favorites, the Sheraton, Hilton or Renaissance out in Fairlawn/Montrose. These are off 77 as well but are a few miles North. You may also want to check out the Quaker Square Hotel (used to be a Hilton) near the U of A campus.

I believe that many MAC teams coming to Akron stay out in the Fairlawn locations--maybe you'll want to hotel near the NIU hotel.

Good luck!!

Though I haven't been at school for sometime now, My wife and I have talked about staying in Downtown for the nightlife when we head back for some games. There is Quaker Square and another one Right in the heart of downtown (Ramada?). They've done a pretty good job of revitalizing downtown. It's only a short drive (10-15 min) to the Rubber Bowl so that is my suggestion. It's MUCH closer than Fairlawn too, though the price might be quite a bit more.

Rifle-

The hotel at Quaker Square is a Crowne Plaza (formerly Hilton), and I agree it is quite unique. There is also a Radisson about 2 blocks from Quaker Square on Mill Street. Our NIU friends may want to check these out-in fact, the entire downtown has become quite a showpiece--lots of nightlife, mostly on Main Street, near Exchange and on the North end of Main, also. They can check out the U of A campus if they wish, too.

The Crowne Plaza is probably 7 or 8 miles from the Rubber Bowl while the Fairlawn hotels are maybe 15 miles.

Go Zips!!

I live in Green, 1 mile from 77. There are a couple hotels at the Massillon Rd and Arlington Rd Exits....5 miles from the RB. On Massillon Rd, there is a Super 8. On Arlington, there is a Holiday Inn Express and I think a Red Roof up the street from the HI.

As the Zips fans have said, there really isn't a hotel close to the RB. Check up and down I 77 for the best results, IMO.

Hope this helps and have a safe trip! Since BG doesn't play that day, I think I'm gonna bring the boys over for the game! MAC football.
