LSU player arrested, charged with theft

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU football player Kenderick Allen was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft after taking $100 worth of alcohol from a grocery store, Baton Rouge police said.

Allen was walking through the parking lot of an Albertson's grocery store last month when the store manager recognized him and began a conversation, police officer Mary Ann Godawa said. During that conversation the manager began to suspect that the alcohol Allen was holding had not been purchased.

The manager didn't confront Allen at the time, Godawa said, and instead went into the store to question employee Karnisha Williams.

Williams confirmed the manager's su****ions, saying Allen had only purchased a magazine.

"What happened is he went up to the counter, they rang up the magazine," Godawa said. "He handed her a $5 bill; she gave him some change; and he walked out with the alcohol."

Williams was fired, arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft. The police contacted Allen by phone later that evening, when he was formally charged. Allen later returned the alcohol.

The Baton Rouge district attorney's office said there was no other information available.

Allen, a senior defensive end from Bogalusa, recently had surgery to repair a tendon in his left knee, which he injured during LSU's offseason conditioning program. LSU announced June 4 that he was in a rehab program and would be re-evaluated in two months.
